Monday Premier League Soccer: Miller picks West Brom vs Southampton, Brighton vs Everton

Eleven points back with eight matches to go, can West Brom survive the drop?

What a huge result for Newcastle United yesterday.

The Magpies came back to beat Burnley 2-1, and now sit six points ahead of 18th place Fulham, with a game in hand. It is looking very much like the bottom three teams coming into Monday will be the three teams relegated to the Championship, with Norwich City (all but promoted) and Watford (just about there) set to return to the Premier League at the first try.

But can West Bromwich Albion get hot at the right time and beat the drop? The Baggies will have to win a lot of games in the next month, but it could be done, starting today. West Brom could pull to within eight points of Newcastle with a victory today over Southampton.

Will it happen, though? I doubt it. The Saints could ensure their safety with a victory today, and move back up to 12th in the table.

Brighton & Hove Albion is ahead of Newcastle on goal difference, and could move nine clear of Fulham with a win today over Everton. But the Toffees have a clear shot at Europe if they can end the season on a roll, and would move above Tottenham today (with a game in hand) with a win.

These games really could go either way, but I will roll with the better sides.
