CF Monterrey looks to get back to 2019 form after a rough Liga MX spring.

There is a very strong case to be made that CF Monterrey was the best team in the Americas in 2019.

The side, which won its fourth CONCACAF Champions League title, gave Liverpool a run for its money at the 2019 Club World Cup, before losing 2-1 in the semifinals.

But the Clausura of the 2020 season, which saw Monterrey play 10 games before the COVID-19 break pandemic hit, was a disaster: no wins from 10, and just five points.

The break came at exactly the right time, and now Monterrey will head into the Liga MX Apertura looking to get back to the top.
