Soccer Friday: Miller picks a Premier League game – Liverpool v Norwich City, also FC Copenhagen v Lyngby, AS Monaco v Lyon, and many more

The best league in the world returns Friday afternoon, as the current UEFA Champions League holder Liverpool opens up the 2019-2020 Premier League campaign with a home contest against newly-promoted Norwich City.

Because last year came down to the wire, and goal difference could be crucial for every team, this is the type of match that could get ugly. Liverpool, which is now entering its 30th season without a top flight title, will want to come out of the gates and make a statement against a team that played expansively last season in the EFL Championship.

Today is also the first day of a few more leagues, with the French Ligue 1 the most high-profile. Lyon will hit the road to face an AS Monaco side that finished just one spot, and two points, outside the relegation zone last season.

In Germany, the DFB Pokal kicks into gear with three matches, two of which I will look at here. Borussia Dortmund, which just put down a marker for the season last weekend with its 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in the Super Cup, will look to continue its silverware run today.
