Wings face uphill battle against Storm with key players sidelined
Skylar Diggins
Can Skylar Diggins help the Storm take down the ailing Wings in Seattle tonight.

The Wings are headed up to the Pacific Northwest to take on the Storms. With Seattle taking the last matchup between these two, we’ll see if the Wings can bounce back. However, with Paige Bueckers out tonight, it may be challenging for the Wings to hold up.

Wings Injuries:

  • Tyasha Harris Out

  • Paige Bueckers Out

Storm Injuries:

  • Katie Lou Samuelson Out

Matchup Breakdown

We’ve only seen these teams play once so far, and it was actually a fairly close match. Seattle managed to win the game in Dallas by 8 points, but since then, Dallas has lost Bueckers. With her timeline for return still unknown, it’s unlikely we’ll see her tonight, which puts the Wings at a significant disadvantage. It’s not as if the Wings have been performing exceptionally well either. They’ve only won a single game this year against the other worst team in the league, Connecticut. With most of their games ending in blowouts, the Wings just aren’t succeeding this year, and with their number one pick gone, things seem dire.

For the Storm, things haven’t been much better. They’re currently on a three-game losing streak after falling to the Aces on Sunday. With their team looking a bit awkward, they’re now only 3-4 for the season. However, they’ve at least shown some potential. Diggins continues to lead the team, with Nneka Ogwumike heading up the Storm in the post. They’ve done well at creating an inside-out offense that keeps them competitive in most of their games. However, it feels like they’re just lacking a true star. They don’t have that last piece that could help put them over the top; they feel a little stuck in the middle. Overall, though, they’re the better team coming into this matchup by far.

I don’t think we’re going to see much in this matchup. I expect the Storm to take care of business early and build up a lead. The Wings just don’t have the scorers to keep up with Seattle on the court, especially on the road. So that’s why I’m going with the Storm moneyline, the under on the 166 points total, and the Seattle spread.

Betting Lines (DraftKings)

  • Money line: DAL (+390) / SEA (-520)

  • Total Points: 166

  • Spread: +10.5 DAL (-108) / +10.5 SEA (-112)

Moneyline Prediction: Storm Win

Total Points Prediction: Under 166

Spread Prediction: DAL +10.5

Top Prop Bets

Maddy Siegrist Over 9.5 Points (-145)

We’ve seen Siegrist become the go-to scoring option off the bench. She hasn’t been swinging games, but she’s been consistent, which is what I love to see from the third-year player. Averaging 10 points a game exactly, the over on this line is looking tempting. She’s seen consistent shot attempts and minutes lately, scoring 12 the last time the Wings faced the Storm. The over is solid today.

Nneka Ogwumike Over 17.5 Points (-135)

Ogwumike dominated the Wings in their last matchup, finishing that game with 23 points and 18 rebounds. She’s been averaging around 17 points per game, but against the Wings, she should be able to add a few extra. Given her consistent shooting around the rim, it’s hard not to take the over on her points.

Skylar Diggins Over 7.5 Assists (-105)

Even though this assist total seems a bit high, I trust Diggins tonight. She’s been great at picking apart bottom-tier teams, and in her last outing against the Wings, she ended with 9 assists. I would like to see the odds a bit better on the over, but I think she’s going to have another great night regardless.
