Connecticut Sun at Minnesota Lynx, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Minnesota +2.5 (-106), bet $5 to win $4.72
After a two-game road trip, Minnesota returns home where they are 5-2 in their last seven games (5-2 against the spread). The Lynx have been playing well, 7-3 ATS in their last ten games (10-3 in their last 13), and they’ve climbed back up to 10-17 where they sit just two games out of the playoffs. This game is important to them, more so than it is to Connecticut. Also, Minnesota is the only team that can hang with the Sun on the boards. This is their first matchup this season, and I like Minnesota as a home dog as they scrap to get back into contention.
Dallas Wings at Chicago Sky, 8 pm Eastern
The Pick: Dallas +7.5 (-120), bet $5 to win $4.17
I took Chicago on Wednesday despite Courtney Vandersloot being out with a concussion because the spread was only 2.5 and that wasn’t enough to scare me. Tonight’s spread is 7.5 and so yes, I think Vandersloot’s absence will be too much for Chicago to cover. I’m not arguing Dallas will win the game, though it wouldn’t shock me. I am arguing that the Wings’ backcourt will score some points with Vandersloot sidelined, and I’m also arguing now is about time for Dallas to pull one of those, “Oh, you think we stink, huh? Let us show you something against a good opponent.” Currently Dallas is hanging on to the last playoff spot, so there will be a sense of urgency for them. Again, perhaps it won’t be enough to win, but it should be enough to make the game interesting.
Seattle Storm at Phoenix Mercury, 10 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix +6 (-117), bet $5 to win $4.30
This will be the final regular-season matchup between all-time greats Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, and quite possibly the final one given that Phoenix might not make the playoffs. Right now, the Mercury are on the outside looking in. That is a sense of urgency for both Taurasi and Phoenix. The Mercury have been trying to figure out a style of play without Brittney Griner, with mixed results. But they have been trying. I don’t see Taurasi letting tonight go the way of a blowout. She fights tooth and nail for everything, and she’ll put it all on the line against the Storm tonight. It might not be enough to win, but it’ll be enough to cover.
