New York Liberty at Atlanta Dream, 7:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Atlanta -129, bet $10 to win $7.80
These two teams hold the last two playoff spots, and although the season’s got a long way to go, one might think that indicates an even matchup. But hold on. Atlanta is 5-3 at home (5-3 against the spread), and most of those wins indicate an ability to beat the teams they should beat. New York is a team the Dream should beat, I feel. Atlanta has the best defensive rating in the entire WNBA (94.7), a full six points better than the Liberty. They also rebound the ball much better than New York: 52.1% (good for 2nd in the league) against 48.2% (9th). Rookie Dream star Rhyne Howard is averaging 16.3 points per game and I don’t think New York’s frontcourt is strong enough to contain her. I’ll pay a slightly steeper price so I don’t have to worry about the 1.5 point spread.
