The NFL season is heading into Week 6, and it has already been a rollercoaster of a year. This game has a lot on the line with the 4-1 Lions heading to Arrowhead Stadium to take on the 2-3 Chiefs.
There is no question that the Chiefs would like to avoid falling to 2-4, but it will be a tough task to take down the Lions, who have ripped off 4 straight wins since their Week 1 loss to the Packers.
Today, I’ll break down my three best bets to watch in this game.
David Montgomery Over 43.5 Rush Yards (-114)
As good as Jahmyr Gibbs has been for the Lions, we still see Montgomery get a ton of work, and it almost always pays off. The veteran RB has run for 310 yards and 4 TDs in 5 games so far this season as he continues to be a solid contributor in this potent offense.
He averages 12 carries per game, but I think we may see an inflated number this weekend as the Chiefs have a bottom-tier run defense, allowing 4.8 yards per carry and 123 yards per game.
Montgomery is averaging about 5 yards per carry, and I think the Lions OL will dominate in the trenches in this one.
Patrick Mahomes Over 36.5 Pass Attempts (-113)
If the Chiefs want to have any chance at winning this game and avoiding a 2-4 start, Pat Mahomes is going to need to carry the load. Their rushing offense hasn’t been very successful so far this season, and the Lions' rush defense sits in the top 10 in just about every category.
KC holds a pass play percentage of 60.32%, so they certainly prefer the ball to be in the hands of their Quarterback. So far this season, Mahomes has surpassed this 36.5 mark in 4 out of 5 games, and if this game turns into the shootout I am envisioning, he will need to be the key part of the Chiefs' offense.
Lions @ Chiefs Over 52.5 (-110)
Both of these teams are known for their potent offenses, and in recent games, their defenses have not been all that great. Detroit’s offense ranks 1st in the league in offensive points per game, while KC ranks 12th.
Even ranking at 12, KC has scored 20+ in each of its games this season. Both defenses rank in the middle of the pack in defensive points per game as well, allowing 20+ on average.
The Chiefs have a very leaky run defense as well, and the Lions' 1-2 punch of Gibbs and Montgomery may do some damage in this game. I think Goff and Mahomes are going to duel this one out, and it should be a very fun one to watch.
