Two of the NFL's worst teams will clash in Week 9, as the New England Patriots will visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, November 3. Check out our betting guide below for all of the vital info!
The Titans opened as a 3.5-point favorite over the Patriots at most online sportsbooks. Some initial money came in on New England to drive the price down to Tennessee -3 for a day or so. That move was countered by some sharps that sent the line back to the current number of Tennessee -3.5.
As you might expect, oddsmakers are not expecting much scoring between these two subpar offenses. The total opened at 38.5, but some under money pushed it down to 38 at most shops. Even with this low total, I still wouldn't want to play the Over.
New England shocked a lot of experts last week by beating the Jets outright as 7-point underdogs. That victory came just a few days after Pats head coach Jerod Mayo called his team "soft". Will New England ride that positive momentum to a second straight win?
The only negative to the Pats' win over the Jets was that they lost starting rookie QB Drake Maye to a concussion. The former UNC star is currently in the protocol and is listed as questionable to play against the Titans. If Maye can't go, journeyman QB Jacoby Brissett will be the main man under center.
The Patriots are known for being a sound defensive team, but that hasn't been the case in 2024. New England ranks just 24th in yards per play allowed and just 26th in yards per pass allowed. Keion White has been a rare bright spot, as he's registered 4 sacks so far this year.
It's been an awfully tough year for Brian Callahan and the Tennessee Titans, as they're just 1-6 and have yet to get a win at home. They were pummeled last week on the road against the Detroit Lions, 52-14. Though that loss and their 4 turnovers were embarrassing, Tennessee did rack up 416 yards of total offense.
As of Wednesday morning, we still don't know who will be at QB for the Titans. Callahan said he feels optimistic about Will Levis possibly returning, but Mason Rudolph will get the nod if that doesn't happen. Neither QB has been able to quit throwing the ball to the other team this season.
The strength of this Titans team is their defense, as they rank 3rd in both yards per play allowed and yards per pass allowed. Kenneth Murray leads the team with 47 tackles this season.
This one's ugly, but I like the Titans to finally get their first home win of the year. My power rating makes this line closer to Tennessee -4.5 on their home field. Tennessee will be eager to put last week's blowout loss behind them, and I think they'll do just that against a subpar New England squad.
My hope is that Callahan will start to run the football more with Tony Pollard to limit turnovers on offense. The former Cowboys star hasn't had a great season, but he's still one of Tennessee's best playmakers.
I love that we're getting the better defense playing at home with this wager. I also love that Tennessee ranks 2nd in strength of schedule while New England ranks just 15th. Let's lay the small number. Titan Up!
Prediction: Titans 21 - Pats 14
