NFL: Sunday Night Football - Eagles v Rams (winner)

Philadelphia Eagles +13 @ Los Angeles Rams

Yes, I know -- you took the 3½ last week and figured you were golden when the Eagles-Cowboys went to OT. I feel your pain. My bank account feels your pain. (Shoot, my ex-wife’s lawyer feels your pain.) So we move on. This line opened at 9½, which I thought was too high. Why? The Rams, who are averaging 33 ppg even with last week’s stinker at Chicago, have only covered in 2 of their last 10 games, all as favorites. Against likely playoff teams they’re 1-5-2 vs. the number. The line has ballooned to as high as 13½ on Wentz not being available. So what do we have? A team whose offense was exposed last week against a good defense, but who can clinch the division against Arizona next week regardless of what happens here . . . against a team clawing for wins that is likely to let it all hang out with a backup QB who, yeah, won the Super Bowl 10 months ago. Eagles could even steal this one outright, which makes the points a bargain.

RESULT

Saint Nick (Foles) delivers another Christmas present. Eagles win 30-23.

The NFL Degenerate can be seen on Sundays at noon, pedaling his bike over the George Washington Bridge from Manhattan to Fort Lee, N.J., to get his bets down (and save the bridge toll). In 1987, he threw a television set out a window when a late-game safety in the Broncos-Patriots 1987 playoff game cost him the spread AND the over simultaneously.
