Folks in the Motor City are going crazy about their beloved Lions and rightfully so. Detroit put up an incredible 15-2 record even after a whole slew of unlucky injuries decimated their defense.
Though the defense has struggled at times, the offense ranks 1st in points per game because of Jared Goff, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Detroit also has the fieriest coach in football, Dan Campbell.
Can you believe we live in a world where Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs aren't the odds-on favorite to win a Super Bowl? Kansas City was as dominant as in years past, but they still went 15-2 behind Mahomes and a stellar defense that ranked 4th in points allowed this season.
The offense didn't look as crisp as last year, but with a dynamic play caller like Andy Reid, this team is always dangerous. Surprisingly, the Chiefs rank just 23rd in yards per play this year. That being said, it's always tough to fade Patrick Mahomes!
Bringing in a future Hall of Famer like Derrick Henry has already paid big dividends for this squad. Henry and Lamar Jackson helped the Ravens lead the NFL in yards per rush and yards per game. However, even with their stellar offense, Baltimore went just 12-5 and showed some inconsistency.
I'm a bit shocked to see the Bills in the 4th place spot as far as the odds are concerned. Josh Allen will probably end up being the league MVP and rightfully so. The former Wyoming Cowboy terrorizes defenses with both his arm and his legs.
Philly gets a tough Wild Card Weekend matchup against Green Bay, but this team is pretty strong on both sides of the ball. You can bet that Nick Sirianni's boys will be fired up after last year's early playoff exit. The biggest question for the Eagles is the health of QB Jalen Hurts, who is still in concussion protocol at the time of this writing.
Minnesota was dominated by Detroit during the final game of the regular season, but this is still a dangerous football team. Sam Darnold is having a terrific season, and he has arguably the best wideout duo in football, Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. A tough 1st round matchup with the Rams won't be easy though.
Should Green Bay really be a 22 to 1 long shot to win the Super Bowl? It sure looks like a mighty high number to me! The Packers did just lose WR Christian Watson to a knee injury, but they are used to putting up stellar numbers without him. If Josh Jacobs and Co. can get by Philly in Round 1, the entire league better look out.
Baker Mayfield has rejuvenated his career in Tampa Bay and this Bucs offense is no slouch. Rachaad White and Bucky Irving form a potent 1-2 punch at RB, while Mike Evans and Cade Otton are excellent options at wideout. The Bucs defense will have to stop Jayden Daniels and Washington during their tussle on January 12th.
Wow, what a job Jim Harbaugh has done in his return to the NFL! He's done it the same way he won a title at Michigan, with a good running game and a solid defense. That being said, this squad is probably still a year or two away from a deep playoff run.
If Sean McVay doesn't get some serious Coach of the Year consideration, they may as well not give out the award. He's gotten the Rams into the playoffs even though the offense was a mash unit for much of the early months of the season. With Matthew Stafford throwing to Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp, this offense could surprise some folks during the playoffs.
Speaking of Coach of the Year, Dan Quinn has to get some recognition for the job he's done this season as well. Quinn has Jayden Daniels on the cusp of an Offensive Rookie of the Year award and you can bet that this team will give Tampa Bay all they can handle during the Wildcard Round.
Denver is a huge underdog in Round 1 to Buffalo, but Sean Payton and rookie QB Bo Nix look like a match made in heaven. Everyone is counting out the Broncos, but they could cause the Bills some problems if they can force a turnover or two with their ferocious defense.
Houston has been somewhat of a disappointment after bursting onto the scene last season. CJ Stroud hasn't looked as comfortable at QB and losing key weapons like Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell to injury doesn't help matters. Even still, DeMeco Ryans is a solid young coach, and he has an above-average defense.
100 to 1 sounds too high for a salty old dog coach like Mike Tomlin and a proven winner at QB like Russell Wilson. The problem is that this Steelers team has been in a bit of a slump lately. They'll need a miracle to get by the Ravens in Round 1, but anything can happen.
