VINTAGE DIGITS

>>> COLLEGE BASKETBALL

In four seasons as a part-time player at La Salle in the mid-1970s, current Hofstra head coach Joe Mihalich shot a paltry 55.4% (31-for-56) on free throws.

But over the last two seasons, his Pride players have combined to shoot 79.3% (1139-for-1436) from the foul line, the best in Division I. They finished seventh in the country this abbreviated season (78.3%) after connecting at an 80.2% rate – good enough for second – in 2018-19.

Would have been nice to see how they shot from the charity stripe in some late-pressure NCAA Tournament games this March . . . but that is a lament for a different decade.
