76ers get "BreadwinnerLA_" in NBA2K draft

Last night at the NBA2K draft held at the Barclay's Center in Brooklyn, the 76ers Gaming Club, the NBA 2K League team of the Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment portfolio, selected two players to supplement their holdovers from last season.

With the 19th overall pick in the first round, 76ers GC selected Christopher “BreadwinnerLA_” Lafanette, 22, from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Lafanette played 42 games in the online NBA 2K League Combine, averaging 19.2 points, 4.4 assists and 5.1 steals per game.

“We are excited to have a player of the caliber of BreadwinnerLA_ ,” 76ers GC General Manager Michael Lai said. “Analytically, BreadwinnerLA_ was exceptional and film illuminated his potential to be an elite defender. During his interview, BreadwinnerLA_ demonstrated a team-first attitude, which we as an organization value highly.”

In addition to BreadwinnerLA_, 76ers GC drafted Sean ‘oCASSIUS’ Clayton from Cincinnati, Ohio. oCASSIUS averaged 23.3 points, 5.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game in 132 games in the NBA 2K League Combine.

“oCASSIUS proved during the combine that he was not only an incredible scorer but also a versatile playmaker and defender,” Lai said. “oCASSIUS’s offensive ability will add another dimension to our team and ease the pressure placed on Radiant.”

“We are thrilled to add BreadwinnerLA_and oCASSIUS to our roster, because we feel that they will gel well with our current players,” 76ers GC Head Coach Jeff Terrell said. “They will be great components to reaching our ultimate goal of a championship.”

BreadwinnnerLA_ and oCASSISUS round out the 2019 76ers GC roster that features four players the team retained from last season:

  • Point guard Ethan “Radiant” White
  • Shooting guard Antonio “Newdini” Newman
  • Small forward Alexander “Steez” Bernstein
  • Point guard Rashann “ZDS” Petty

76ers GC will train again this season at the state-of-the-art Philadelphia 76ers Training Complex in Camden, New Jersey. The 2019 NBA 2K League season begins April 2. It runs 18 weeks.

And yes, you can bet on these games. Since the teams and draft picks are so new, at least at the start of the season we recommend the moneylines.

A Sportsbook in Cherry Hill? It's complicated

Yesterday, there were numerous stories about Jack Morris and Joe Marino launching a standalone sportsbook for the old Garden State Racetrack site.

The dispute is between Cherry Hill Towne Center Partners (Morris and Marino) and Garden State Park Racing (the former racetrack operator) which is partnered with Greenwood Racing (which owns and operates Parx on the other side of the river in Bensalem).

There's some question as to whether Garden State Park Racing and Greenwood Racing want to enter the market at the old racetrack or just block others from getting a toehold so close to Philadelphia. At least that's what the Morris/Marino faction is implying.

Anyway, Cherry Hill Towne Center Partners, which owns a portion of the land once part of the racetrack that is now a shopping mall, filed suit last summer claiming that GS Park Racing and Greenwood had no right to stop gaming at the track,

GS Park Racing, which still owns 10 acres of the old track space, however, claims it has had restrictive covenants at the track since 1999 and says it holds exclusive rights to accept wagers at the facility.

Morris and Marino believe they can be up and running before summer. Which summer will depend on a lot of lawyers and judges and maybe on the two entities making a deal.
