Parx Casino in Bensalem officially launches sportsbook

Parx will not be setting its own odds and lines, but will use those provided by Malta-based Kambi Group.

With the snip of a red silk ribbon, Parx Casino in Bensalem officially opened its temporary sportsbook Thursday afternoon.

Immediately after Parx Chairman Robert Green wielded a pair of oversized scissors and split the sash, Pa. State Sen. Tommy Tomlinson (R-6), placed the first bet—a “straight up” wager on the Eagles to beat the New Orleans Saints in Sunday’s second round of the NFC playoffs.

The brief ceremony followed two days of live testing, and was attended by various Parx executives, local officials and a swarm of customers eager to start betting on sporting events.

The Parx betting parlor is a temporary facility housed in what was the casino’s 360 Lounge entertainment venue. It boasts 20 high-definition televisions screens of various sizes as well as two 16′-by-9′ screens that can be split into four screens. In all, patrons can view up to 28 events at one time.

Other amenities include seven live teller windows, a full-service bar and seating.

In addition, 45 self-service sports-betting kiosks have been placed in the sports book and throughout the casino floor and the casino’s poker room.

According to John Dixon, the property’s chief technology officer, Parx will not be setting its own odds and lines, but will use those provided by Malta-based Kambi Group.

A Parx spokesperson said that it has not yet been determined whether or not the temporary space will again be used for musical and comedy performances once the permanent sports book opens in the spring.
