The college football national championship game features two unlikely participants as the No. 10-ranked Miami Hurricanes (13-2) essentially host the sport’s only unblemished team, the No. 1-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (15-0).

Miami was the last team into this year’s college football playoff. The Hurricanes have gutted out defensive-oriented performances against Texas A&M and Ohio State before winning a 31-27 shoot-out over Ole Miss in the semifinals.

Indiana entered this season as the losingest program in college football history. Despite their baggage, the Hoosiers have acquitted the committee’s lofty ranking by blowing out Alabama and Oregon en route to Monday’s championship contest.

Will Indiana become the first program in 29 years to claim the sport’s ultimate prize for the first time ever? We’ll cover that and provide bettors with our top three player props for the national title game.

Indiana Hoosiers QB Fernando Mendoza UNDER 223.5 Passing Yards

It’s rare that a Heisman-winning quarterback doesn’t post outlandish numbers, but Fernando Mendoza is that exception. The Indiana signal-caller has completed 73 percent of his passes this season, throwing for 3,349 yards, 41 touchdowns, and only six picks thus far.

While his plays are impactful, his final stats often don’t reflect that. You have to go back to the Wisconsin game – a 31-7 beating – to find a contest in the past two months where Mendoza has thrown for more than 222 yards. Indiana can run the football against Miami, so bettors should expect him to finish above his passing prop total on Monday.

Miami Hurricanes WR Malachi Toney OVER 61.5 Receiving Yards

Freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney – also known as “Baby Jesus” – has been a savior for Miami’s offense this season. The 5-foot-11 athlete has caught 99 passes for 1,089 yards and nine touchdowns this season.

Expect him to add to that total on Monday night. The Hurricanes will use their talented receiver in a variety of roles, allowing him to find open space against the Hoosiers. Take him to cover his prop bet total in the national championship game.

Miami Hurricanes QB Carson Beck OVER 197.5 Passing Yards

The man throwing Toney passes this season has also been a major talking point heading into this contest. Miami secured one of the nation’s top quarterbacks in Carson Beck during the transfer portal, and the former Georgia Bulldog has his new program on the cusp of the school’s first national title in more than two decades.

This year, the senior has been more of a game manager than a game-changer, throwing for 3,581 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His best postseason performance came against Ole Miss as he completed 23 of his 37 pass attempts for 268 yards and two touchdowns.

Can he repeat on Monday? The short answer is yes. The Hoosiers have allowed two of their past three opponents to throw for more than 250 yards. Bettors should expect Beck and his team to play from behind most of the game, allowing him to cover this player prop total.

Best Bet: Indiana (-8.5)

Indiana has had close calls this year, including a pair of nail-biting Big Ten wins over Iowa and Penn State. Beyond those contests, the Hoosiers have looked dominant throughout the season en route to this championship run.

Monday’s game may feel more like a coronation ceremony than a big-round fight. Expect the Hoosiers to be prepared and defeat a Miami team that isn’t nearly as disciplined as their counterparts. A double-digit margin of victory will seal Indiana’s perfect season.
