Can BYU slow down Behren Morton and the Texas Tech offense?
Published on

College Gameday announced that they’re going to be in Lubbock this weekend for the matchup between No. 7-ranked BYU and No. 8-ranked Texas Tech.

This is, by far, the most anticipated game on the slate for this weekend’s action, and we couldn’t be more excited to talk about our favorite Underdog player props from this matchup.

Most sportsbooks have Texas Tech as a 10.5-point favorite, but BYU is no slouch, by any means, so we’re thinking this could be a back-and-forth battle that goes down to the wire. Let’s see where our picks shape up!

Behren Morton UNDER 260.5 Passing Yards

Behren Morton has been awesome this season, a major reason for Texas Tech’s success to this point. However, his efficiency has been impressive, and he doesn’t have that many ‘boom’ games, so to speak, having just two performances with over 261 passing yards.

We don’t think he’s going to be that effective in this game, and are banking on him having less than 261 yards, especially considering BYU only allows 207.9 passing yards per game.

Morton could still throw for 240 or 250 in this one, but we don’t believe he’s going to hit that 261-yard threshold, so we’re taking the under.

Terrance Carter Jr. OVER 38.5 Receiving Yards

While we’re fading Morton’s passing line in this game, he does have to throw the ball to someone, even if he’s not going to hit this 261-yard total.

Terrance Carter Jr. could be a good option, a player who’s averaging 14 yards per reception. Carter is a big-bodied tight end that Morton seems to trust, especially in big-play situations, and he could be used as a bail-out player when plays break down.

He doesn’t need to have many receptions to have 39 receiving yards, so we’re more than comfortable taking his over with this in mind.

LJ Martin OVER 69.5 Rushing Yards

BYU is undefeated this season, and running back LJ Martin has been a major reason for their success. This offense operates best when Martin is on a roll, which we’re expecting from him against Texas Tech this weekend.

Martin is averaging an impressive six yards per carry on the year, and if that trend continues, he should be in for a massive performance, so we’re riding with the over on this rushing total.
