The college football schedule is light with top-tier matchups. Fans’ only choice to catch a Top 25 game this weekend happens when the No. 15-ranked Michigan Wolverines travel to play the No. 18-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in Norman on Saturday.
Michigan’s season opener against New Mexico was anything but smooth. The Wolverines took a 17-0 lead, but the Lobos made it interesting before halftime by scoring 10 unanswered points. Michigan finally found breathing room in the fourth quarter, holding New Mexico scoreless while adding one final touchdown for the 34-17 victory.
Oklahoma had no issue dispatching Illinois State in a 35-3 win. The Sooners held the Redbirds to under 150 total offensive yards while quarterback John Mateer had a record-setting day in his debut with his new school.
Will Michigan make a big leap in its second game and stop Oklahoma? We’ll cover that and provide our three favorite player props for this Top 25 matchup on Saturday evening.
Oklahoma found a strong replacement at quarterback this season, acquiring former Washington State quarterback John Mateer from the transfer portal. This 6-foot-1 junior was electric last season, completing 64.6 percent of his passes for 3,139 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just seven interceptions.
New Mexico’s Jack Layne found plenty of open receivers against Michigan last week, completing 31 of his 47 passes for 208 yards. Nothing against Layne, but Mateer is a better quarterback who just threw for 392 yards in his team’s season opener. That makes Mateer’s 241.5-yard target an easy player prop bet to cover in this primetime matchup.
Fans are excited to have true freshman Bryce Underwood under center. The highly-touted prospect finished his first-ever college game with a 21-for-31 passing performance, throwing for 251 yards and a touchdown against New Mexico. Now, he’ll face his first real test against Oklahoma.
The Sooners allowed Redbirds quarterback Tommy Rittenhouse to run downfield, notching 27 yards on two carries. Coupling that with Oklahoma only recording two sacks last week, Underwood looks primed to showcase his running ability. Take the freshman to cover this player prop bet on Saturday.
Oklahoma wide receiver Keontez Lewis isn’t a household name, but the 6-foot-2 senior shouldn’t be ignored. After a strong rookie season with Wisconsin, Lewis left the Badgers in 2024 for SIU, and he notched 49 receptions, 790 receiving yards, and five touchdowns last season.
He’s already started strong in 2025. Against Illinois State, he scored two touchdowns on his nine-reception, 119-yard performance. Bettors should take him to score yet again this week after he showed a strong connection with Mateer in their season opener.
The Sooners’ defense was strong against Illinois State, but the FCS opponent is a completely different beast than Michigan. Oklahoma can expect a much stiffer contest against the Wolverines, especially with Underwood leading the aerial attack.
That’s why bettors should expect this game to be an offensive shootout. While the Sooners’ defense looked strong against Illinois State, the Wolverines will move up and down the field in this contest. Take both teams to easily best the 44.5-point mark in this primetime matchup. Bettors can parlay that with Michigan covering the 5.5-point spread for extra profit.
