Like it or not, NIL has changed the game of college football tremendously. Instead of recruiting high school athletes, teams can now pluck star players from the transfer portal. Here are the 5 best QBs in the transfer portal right now.

1. Miller Moss, Formerly from USC

Moss is one of the most seasoned quarterbacks in the college football portal and he'll draw plenty of interest from a whole slew of teams. The former coveted recruit sat patiently behind Caleb Williams for two seasons at USC. His 2024 numbers were pretty impressive, as he threw for 2,555 yards and was responsible for 20 TDs.

Even with those stellar results, Lincoln Riley put Moss on the bench for the Trojans' final three games of the season. That had to play a role in Moss's decision to leave USC. Possible landing spots for Moss include Michigan, Louisville, and Missouri.

2. Darian Mensah, Formerly from Tulane

Despite a show ending to his season, Mensah was one of the biggest QB surprises in college football in 2024. The 6'3" 200-pounder was only a 2-star recruit coming out of high school, so his breakout numbers this season were more than a bit unexpected.

Just how good was Mensah for the Green Wave this season? He threw for 2,273 and found the end zone 23 times (passing and rushing combined). Tulane tried desperately to keep Mensah, but the allure of a big NIL payday from one of the Power 4 teams was simply too much.

Where will Mensah end up? It's hard to say, but he plans on visiting Duke today, according to multiple reports. That would be a huge score for the Blue Devils.

3. Kaidon Salter, Formerly from Liberty

Salter turned himself into a bonafide QB prospect with Liberty after things didn't work out for him at Tennessee. He doesn't have great size, but he's got more than enough arm strength to make all the throws. He's also dangerous once he gets outside the pocket.

Liberty will miss having Salter in the lineup. He led them to a Fiesta Bowl in 2023 after being named Conference USA MVP. Any team wanting a dual-threat QB will be knocking on Salter's door.

Salter has been linked to Florida State, Colorado, Syracuse, UCLA, and Auburn. FSU is in dire need of a star QB, so you'd think they'd find Salter plenty of NIL money to come to Tallahassee.

4. Maalik Murphy, Formerly from Duke

It was kind of shocking to see Murphy enter the portal, especially since he had such a fabulous season for the Blue Devils. The former Texas Longhorn threw for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2024.

Murphy is a physical specimen at 6"5" and 230 pounds and his arm strength is better than most. That said, Murphy's accuracy can be an issue at times, which is why he committed 13 turnovers last season.

No one has a clue where Murphy will land in 2025, but one would think it would have to be a bigtime program. I could see Murphy at either Oregon or Ohio State once next fall rolls around.

5. Tyler Van Dyke, Formerly from Wisconsin

Big things were expected from Van Dyke in Madison, but a devastating knee injury cut his Wisconsin career to only three games. The former ACC Rookie of the Year has NFL size (6'4", 225 lbs) and a rocket for an arm.

The bad news for interested teams is that Van Dyke only has one season of college eligibility left. The good news is that he has a ton of experience, as he's started 31 games during his college career with Miami and Wisconsin.

Van Dyke only recently announced that he was entering the transfer portal. There have been no whispers of any scheduled visits as of Tuesday afternoon. Stay tuned...
