WKY at JSU: 7:00 PM EST (Friday)
Let's kick things off with some Friday night action in the Conference USA Championship between Western Kentucky and Jacksonville State. This game has a weird element to it, as Western Kentucky just beat Jacksonville State 19-17 last weekend to close out the regular season.
Jacksonville State QB Tyler Huff twisted his ankle last week and head coach Rich Rodriguez said he'll be a game-time decision. Whether Huff plays or not, I look for the Gamecocks to hand the ball off to Tre Stewart early and often. The 5'10" senior is the heart and soul of this JSU team and Rodriguez will be sure to get him plenty of carries.
From a statistical standpoint, this play makes a lot of sense. Sure, WKU held Stewart to just 85 yards last weekend, but I doubt that they can hold him down two weeks in a row. Stewart's median rushing number is 135 yards this season in CUSA games. Take the Over!
MSH at ULL: 7:30 PM EST (Saturday)
Our second play takes us to the Sun Belt Championship, where Marshall will head south to take on Louisiana. Both teams had fantastic regular seasons, as Marshall went 9-3 and Louisiana finished up at 10-2. You can bet that the Ragin' Cajuns home field will be rocking on Saturday night for this matchup.
While I think Louisiana gets the W at home, I expect Marshall to have lots of success on the ground in this one. The Ragin Cajuns rank just 91st in yards per rush allowed. That could be an issue against a Thundering Herd squad that ranks 27th in yards per carry.
A big part of Marshall's success has been because of AJ Turner. He's run for 864 yards and 6 TDs this season. The 6-foot sophomore has gone over this rushing total in 7 of his 11 ball games in 2024. Take the Over with confidence.
ISU vs ASU: Noon PM EST (Saturday)
I released this play yesterday on my X page, but BetMGM has since moved the line to 122.5. That's a huge adjustment but I still like the Over quite a bit. Since it's moved so much, I'd recommend playing only a half-unit or so on it. You may be able to find a better number once the rest of the market sends out their numbers.
Anyway, there's a lot to like about Skattebo in this spot. This kid has been a true workhorse for Arizona State all year long and I don't see that changing against an Iowa State squad that ranks just 111th in yards per rush allowed. My numbers have Skattebo finishing with 135 rushing yards, so we'll still pull the trigger on the Over, even with the line movement!
