CFB YTD: 24-15 (+7.5 units)
It was a fun Thanksgiving weekend, but our college football Saturday was the worst day of the year. Our best bets suffered an 0-4 fate, which was depressing. However, readers still profited +21 units in all sports for November, so the sky isn't falling.
For championship week, there are only nine games on the betting board. With such a limited slate, I rarely find many plays. Oddsmakers are incredibly sharp when they only have to make lines for 9 games instead of 60.
PSA: This may disappoint some folks, but I have only one play this week in college football (as far as sides go). I know it's fun to have action on lots of big games, but I have a responsibility to my readers and their bankrolls. Because of this, I never recommend plays that I don't have my own money on.
Get fired up for Championship Week in college football as we peek at the AAC Title Game between Tulane and Army on Friday, December 6. Good luck and enjoy the action, folks!
Oddsmakers opened this line for the AAC Championship Game at Tulane -5, but a heavy barrage of sharp money came in on Army. The current line is now Tulane -4 at most online sportsbooks. Apparently, a lot of folks are fading Tulane after its shocking loss to Memphis on Thanksgiving.
As for the total, there's been a strong appetite for the Under so far. The line opened at 48.5 before being bet down to 47.5 at most sports betting apps. The lean to the Under makes sense, especially since both teams usually dominate the time of possession battle.
Tulane is coming off a head-scratching loss to Memphis last Thursday. The Green Wave were favored by two touchdowns, but three costly turnovers proved to be too much for them to overcome. That loss ended the Green Wave's slim hopes of sneaking into the College Football Playoffs.
Darian Mensah may have had a rough game against Memphis, but he's still the main man of the Tulane offense. Mensah has thrown for 2,514 yards and 20 TDs in 2024. Makhi Hughes (1,306 rushing yards, 15 TDs) has also been one of the most dangerous RBs in the AAC.
Tulane's defense has been just average against the run, but the secondary has been elite all year long. The Green Wave ranks 15th in yards per pass allowed and they do an excellent job of getting off the field on third downs.
You can bet that the Black Knights will be fired up for this one, as they were rewarded with home-field advantage since they went undefeated in conference play. Bryson Daily takes a beating each week running the triple option, but the 6-foot senior is arguably the toughest man in college football. He's run for 25 TDs and thrown for 8 more to bolster Army's passing attack.
Army doesn't throw the ball often, but they've been effective when choosing to do so. Daily likes to hook up with Casey Reynolds (409 rec yds, 3 TDs) as much as he can off of play-action. Kanye Udoh has been a nice complement to Daily in the running game, as he's found the end zone 9 times this season.
Army's defense has some impressive numbers this year. They rank inside the Top 35 in both yards per rush allowed and yards per pass allowed. Casey Larkin and Jayden Mayes both lead the team with 3 interceptions apiece.
I know that a lot of folks think that Tulane will mail it in after having their dreams crushed last week, but I think this is the ideal bounce-back spot for them. In an era where everyone is focused on playoff berths, I still believe that winning a conference title means something.
I love Army, but their very weak strength of schedule has bothered me all year long. The Black Knights have faced just the 125th toughest schedule in the country. Tulane has played the 78th toughest.
We just saw what happened when Army had to step up in class against Notre Dame. I know that Tulane isn't Notre Dame, but I'm still betting on a similar result. Keep in mind that Tulane just beat Navy (a very similar offense) 35-0 just a few weeks ago. Lay the points!
