AAC College Football: Geier picks Georgia Tech at Temple, SMU at USF, Houston at North Texas

First game is 3:30 pm EDT Saturday.

Georgia Tech @ Temple (-6.5), 3:30 pm EDT on CBSSN

Both teams are coming off bad losses (Citadel & Buffalo). However, there is a clear favorite in this matchup. The Temple Owls haven't lost a home game in over a year. They've taken down a good Maryland team and will play angry. Georgia Tech is still finding it's identity under Geoff Collins. I believe it will be tight for a half. However, the Georgia Tech run-defense is just unreliable surrendering 274.3 rushing yards per game.

Pick: Temple (-6.5)

SMU @ USF (+7.5), 4 pm EDT on ESPNU

Coach Sonny Dykes has done wonders for the SMU Mustangs in his second year. They're off to a 4-0 start and defeated a ranked TCU team on the road. Junior Shane Buechele (QB) has managed to hold his own in a pass-heavy offense which currently ranks top fifteen in the nation (43.5 PPG). However, the same can't be said for the USF Bulls who can't seem to score. Sure, they scored 55 against South Carolina St. (FCS School) but FBS opponents they're averaging 5 PPG. SMU should take this road win easily but expect USF quarterback Jordan McCloud (Fr.) to put up some big numbers.

Pick: SMU (-7.5)

Houston @ North Texas, 8 pm EDT on TBD

The spread has switched drastically after getting the news senior D'Eriq King (QB) will redshirt the remainder of the season. King is considered one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation and put up 50 touchdowns in 2018. However, without King on the field, the offense remains a mystery and off to a slow start going 1-3 in their first four games. Overall, North Texas has multiple advantages which include being they're home, consistency, and have an identity on both sides of the ball. I think North Texas wins but it’s a tight spread so taking the over.

Pick: Over 58
