Syracuse Orangemen vs. Florida State Seminoles, 12 pm Eastern

The Pick: Florida State -120, bet $18 to win $15

The #8/#9 matchup opens today’s slate of the ACC Tournament. Florida State has won three in a row, while Syracuse has lost four straight. These two teams are heading in opposite directions. Also, the Seminoles beat the Orangemen on Jan. 15t, so they know how to do it. Today’s winner “gets” to play Duke tomorrow, and Florida State has actually beaten the Blue Devils this year, while Syracuse has lost to them twice, just getting pounded by them a week ago. I suspect Syracuse knows the season is ending.

Boston College Golden Eagles vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 2:30 pm Eastern

The Pick: Boston College +9.5 (-110), bet $22 to win $20

I do not think Boston College will win today. But 9.5 points is a lot for a team that has always played hard this season and got a lot of confidence yesterday with a 20-point win (even if it was against Pittsburgh). The Golden Eagles lost to the Demon Deacons by 30 - on Jan. 24. I think not only will B.C. be itching to put forth a better show, but Wake Forest will be looking past them to tomorrow's matchup against Miami, who they lost to on New Year’s Day. I think today’s game is a bit of a slog as Boston College tries to slow down the game, and if that’s the case, getting almost 10 points feels like the play.

Clemson Tigers at Virginia Tech Hokies, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Clemson +4.5 (-110), bet $16.50 to win $15

Clemson’s on a bit of a roll, winning five games straight, including a win over Virginia Tech on March 5. The primary reason the Tigers had to play yesterday was a two-week stretch in February when they lost six straight. They’re a better team than the 10-seed in the ACC. In fact, according to the Pomeroy rankings, the Tigers are twenty teams better than the Hokies. I think Clemson plays hard, and Virginia Tech is more than capable of letting teams hang around. This is another ragged game that stays close.

Louisville Cardinals vs. Virginia Cavaliers, 9:30 pm Eastern

The Pick: Virginia -230, bet $57.50 to win $25; Virginia -5 (-110), bet $16.50 to win $15

Right now, Joe Lunardi has Virginia not making the tournament; according to him, the Cavaliers are the fifth team out. Cavalier guard Kihei Clark is a) one of the smartest college players I’ve ever seen and b) a senior. That means if UVa doesn’t make the tournament this year, Clark (and fellow seniors Jayden Gardner and Kody Stattman) is done. Um, I don’t think Clark is going out like that. Virginia needs to put together a strong ACC Tournament performance if they’re to have any chance of getting to play next week. They’re a smart, veteran team that plays chokehold defense, and they’re playing Louisville, who’s a)coming off only a day’s rest and b) not good. Virginia has been sticking their collective finger in my eye all season, and I’m not getting burned again. Clark and his teammates start a mission today.
