Fats Baller's Saturday SWAC Picks: Alabama St vs Alabama A&M, MVSU vs UAPB, Alcorn St. vs Prairie View

Fats on the Patriot League: 9-10, -$23.

Monday SWAC results:

Texas Southern -9 Over UAPB, $11 to win $10.

LOSS: This was disappointing as Texas Southern was covering for a large chunk of the game before letting it get away late, and winning 70-68.

Prairie View A&M at Mississippi Valley State, game under 153, $11 to win $10.

WIN: Prairie View won 69-64 = 133, easily under.

Bethune-Cookman -2 Over Alabama St., $11 to win $10.

LOSS: Another disappointment. Bethune-Cookman led 37-32 at the half and then left their defense in the locker room giving up 57 points in the second half, to lose 89-78 (giving up 89 to a team that hadn't scored 89 all season against a D1 team).

Saturday SWAC Picks:

Alabama St. at Alabama A&M, 5 pm EST

Alabama A&M -2, $11 to win $10.

When these two in-state rivals get together no one knows what will happen – and that includes me. The two teams have about the same power rating but play very different styles. But . . . State has lost four fo their last five and A&M is at home and won four in a row. That's enough for me to take them as a slight favorite.

Mississippi Valley State at Arkansas Pine Bluff, 6:30 pm EST

UAPB -4, $11 to win $10.

If there was a way to bet both teams to lose I might do that. The only two games MVSU has won all season have been on the road, but they've now completed their home schedule and are just playing out the string. It's Senior Night at Pine Bluff and two key players are seniors. That's enough for me.

Alcorn St. at Prairie View A&M, 6:30 pm EST

Alcorn St. +3, $11 to win $10.

Two of the better teams in the league are very evenly matched. Alcorn lost to Prairie View by 1 point at home but is 10-4 in league play, has won four of five, and does win on the road. Prairie View is 8-5 and won four straight and may win tonight (they are favored after all). But I think it will be close.
