Louisville Cardinals at Virginia Cavaliers, 7 pm Eastern

The Pick: Louisville +5 (-109), bet $16.30 to win $15; Louisville +185, bet $7.50 to win $13.88

Virginia is only 6-4 at home, and their two wins against conference opponents by an average of 1.5 points. Louisville has lost four of five but have beaten ACC opponents and, more importantly, have won close games against ACC opponents. Once again, Virginia’s pace, if not their defense, will keep the score low and the game close. In fact, the Cardinals’ adjusted defense is actually better than the Cavaliers’. Louisville has also played a tougher schedule thus far. All of that tells me tonight will be a dogfight. I like the underdog getting 5. Cover for dinner, a straight upset for dessert.

Virginia Tech Hokies at North Carolina Tar Heels, 8 pm Eastern

The Pick: North Carolina -194, bet $29.10 to win $15; North Carolina -4.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10

North Carolina has lost their last two games by an average of 20 points. I think that helps them tonight. The Tar Heels may not have shown that they're in the elite of the NCAA this season - yet. But they’re still North Carolina: tall, strong, athletic. Sometimes I watch them and wonder how they ever lose (*cough* coaching *cough). So I think getting blown out the last two games will have them focused tonight. Pomeroy has Virginia Tech (#37) ahead of North Carolina (#43), which frankly, I don’t get. The Hokies' biggest win this season was over Notre Dame, hardly the ’85 Bears (or the ’85 Hoyas, everyone uses “the ’85 Bears” for this sort of statement). The Tar Heels have a better adjusted offense, a much faster tempo, and a better strength of schedule. I think they blow Virginia Tech out tonight. Moneyline for dinner, lay the 4.5 for dessert.
