Chicago Bulls at Milwaukee Bucks, 6:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: Milwaukee -10 (-110), bet $16.50 to win $15
Milwaukee’s been flying a little bit under the radar all year, but as we enter the playoffs, no team seems more poised to make a statement in their opening round. The Bucks have won nine of their last ten games against the Bulls, the last one by 21 at Chicago. The Bulls are just way too unmoored without point guard and defensive stalwart Lonzo Ball, and after a super start crashed back to Earth - although they’ve been bad against top teams all season long. But mainly I like Giannis Antetokounmpo’s pride and underrated competitive streak to ensure his Milwaukee teammates don’t take anything for granted in their title defense. The Bucks make a statement today.
New Orleans Pelicans at Phoenix Suns, 9 pm Eastern
The Pick: Phoenix -10.5 (-110), bet $16.50 to win $15
Speaking of teams poised to make a statement: May I introduce you to the Phoenix Suns. I’m not certain yet that there will be a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, but I do know that the Suns a) know they can get there, b) were the best team in the league this season, and c) face a New Orleans squad that, frankly, are here due to a late-game collapse by the Los Angeles Clippers. There’s a bit of a “happy to be here” vibe from the Pelicans, and in their last meeting, Phoenix pounded them by 16 in New Orleans. The Phoenix crowd will be rocking, the Suns will be ready to prove their championship-worthy, and New Orleans will be a bit tentative with only a day’s rest after two play-in games. The Suns make a statement too.
