Charlotte Hornets at Atlanta Hawks, 7 pm Eastern
The Pick: Charlotte +5.5 (-110), bet $11 to win $10
These two teams have identical records but Charlotte is 45-35-2 against the spread while Atlanta is only 37-45. The Hornets also won the season series between the two teams, 2-1 (2-1 ATS), and are 10-5 ATS in their last 15 games. The Hornets will have an advantage down low given the Hawks are without John Collins. I think the spread here reflects a memory of last year, when the Hawks went to the Eastern Conference Finals. This is not last year; tonight’s game is close.
San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans Pelicans, 9:30 pm Eastern
The Pick: New Orleans -210, bet $21 to win $10
San Antonio made a nice run at the end of the season to make it into the play-in game, but New Orleans is 18-6 as a favorite. The Pelicans lost their last game at home to the Spurs, so there will be no chance they’ll take the game lightly. The game before that, they beat the Spurs 124-91, out-rebounding the home team by 18 (58-40). Pelican CJ McCollum is the best player in the series, and his talent, leadership, and experience will be enough to get a straight win.
