Kern: Parx's four days of future bets feature the Eagles, Clemson & Alabama, Tiger, Brady, Trout, the Lakers & Dodgers and Connecticut Sun

The bets are only up for a day and change Thursday through Sunday.

The Parx Online Casino has posted some interesting future bets. But there’s a time element attached to them. You only have a few days at most to wager on something you might feel appealing. And since there’s not very much out there anyway these days, if nothing else it’s a much-needed whatever. So here goes. You never know what might strike your needs/itch.

Clemson and Alabama to both make the college football playoffs in the 2020-21 season is listed at +$100. It activates at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and will be suspended at 11:59 p.m. that same day. Last year was the first time in five years that one of them didn’t make it, that being Alabama. And if Tua didn’t get hurt, The Tide might have made it again too. So there is that. I think Clemson will definitely make it, since the ACC is the ACC, although the Tigers are scheduled to go to Notre Dame in early November. And Bama as always will have to get through the hardest conference. But I would still take the chance that Nick Saban will find a way and Clemson will avoid a disaster. Remember that Bama could probably still get in with one loss, but Clemson likely doesn’t have that luxury. Just because.

The Connecticut Sun to be the WNBA Championship winner in 2020. They’re +$600. It has the same opening as Clemson-Bama to get something down. I don’t know very much about the WNBA, so I’ll take a pass. But I’m sure there are those that do know at least a little something and might have enough of an idea to formulate an opinion. Sorry. That’s the best I’ve got to offer. Sue me.

The Eagles to win the NFC Conference in 2020-21. The odds are +$1100. That activates at 12:01 a.m. Friday and runs to 11:59 p.m. Friday. I don’t necessarily think these Birds are set up to get to a Super Bowl, but there are so many variables that we just don’t know about. Will there be fans in the stands, at least at the beginning? Will there even be a full season? Will they get immediate help in the draft? Right now I’d say the Eagles’ goal may simply be to just make the playoffs, which would give them a chance. And maybe for the first time, given the unique circumstances that might still exist, this is the first year in a long time that a longer shot makes it to the final game. The number might be worth just a little something, if only to have more to cheer for. But I’m not advocating that it will indeed happen or that I’d get too heavily involved.

The Dodgers to win the World Series in 2020. At +$450. It has the same time window as the Eagles. The Dodgers could have probably won the last three World Series. Last year they lost early in the playoffs, after winning the National League the two years before that. They’re probably the best team on paper, at least in the NL. Again, there are so many variables that it’s a crapshoot. I wish the odds were a little higher, but I understand why they’re not. Maybe in a year such as this it actually makes sense that L.A. would win the trophy for the first time in 32 years.

Tom Brady to have over 4200.5 passing yards in the regular season. Odds are +$110. It activates at 12:01 a.m. Saturday and runs until 11:59 p.m. that night. I know he’s like 100 years old, but he’s on a new team and Bruce Arians likes his Bucs to throw the ball. So I’d probably lean toward the over, assuming he plays 16 games, which he usually does. I would check to see if you get it back should the NFL only play, say, 12 games. I’d take a shot that he could be reinvigorated. Even so, it looks like a good number to go either way. Most of the time betting against Brady isn’t such a good thing.

Tiger Woods to win the Masters in November. At 17-1. This one will be open for the same period as above. Who knows what any golfer will look like seven months from now. Especially one that has so many physical issues. But he has won at Augusta five times. He even went back-to-back once, nearly two decades ago. I wouldn’t put anything past him. So while I don’t necessarily think I would pick him, those odds might be too enticing to pass up. He was like 14-1 last year and made history.

Mike Trout to win the American League MVP. +$200. From 12:01 Sunday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. I mean, he could win every year. His wife is expecting a baby this summer, which could keep him away for while if the corona virus concerns keep him isolated for a couple of weeks or so. And if it’s a shortened season that could obviously hurt. But he’s the best player in the game. And the Angels might actually be a better team. Still, 2-1 against the field isn’t all that inspiring. There are some other good players in the AL the last time I checked.

Lakers to win the NBA title. +$300. This also runs all day Sunday. Again, who knows? They were the best team, with Milwaukee. A lot of people like the Clippers in the postseason. And we don’t know what form the playoffs would take. The West is loaded. But Lebron is determined/motivated. And I’m guessing the rest helps him as much as anyone.

I know what the NBA and TV is rooting for.

Hey, have some fun if you must. And enjoy the wait to see if you cash in on any of them. In the meantime, stay safe.
