NBA Sunday: Greg Frank picks Hornets vs Grizzlies and Mavericks vs Lakers — with Luka Doncic back, can Dallas keep rolling?

Do you really want to trust the Memphis Grizzlies as a favorite on the second leg of a back-to-back? The Grizzlies have been a bit of a rollercoaster recently coming off a push against the spread last night in a 119-110 loss versus Denver on the road, winning by double digits in Oklahoma City on Thursday, getting demolished at home by San Antonio last Monday, and winning at home as a short underdog against Sacramento the game prior. That’s better than Charlotte entering this game having lost four in a row, but the Hornets have actually been a better bet on the road than the Grizzlies have at home. Charlotte comes into this game at 9-8 ATS on the highway while Memphis is 8-10 ATS in its own barn. Look for this game to be competitive into the fourth quarter and the Hornets, who have played just once in the last week, to have more energy left in the tank to win it.

Mavericks (+4) @ Lakers (222.5)

The last time these two teams met was on the first of the month and Dallas posted a very impressive 114-100 road victory. Luka Doncic returned to the lineup on Thursday for the Mavericks and sure enough Dallas has won both games with the young Slovenian phenom back in the fold. However, Sunday is the third game in four days for the Mavericks and second leg of a back-to-back for both Dallas and Los Angeles. We’ve discussed how unders on the tail ends of back-to-backs can be worth a look and that’s going to be our play on this game. The Lakers give up 105.6 points per game coming into this one. They seem to care a good deal about the regular season unlike other contenders and therefore will probably be eager to hold the Mavericks under the 114 points they scored at Staples Center earlier this month. The side is a lot trickier than the total so we’ll steer clear there and just play the under.
