NBA Sunday Afternoon: Greg Frank picks Sixers vs Cavaliers and Celtics vs Kings

Games are at 3 pm and 3:30 pm ET.

1-0 Saturday, 27-17-1 overall.

Sixers (-7) @ Cavaliers (216)

Pick: Cavaliers +7

How are the Sixers laying seven points on the road today? Philly has been playing down to its competition with regularity so far this season in games it is favored in. The Sixers have been a favorite eight times so far this season and covered in just three of those games. Recently, in games at Oklahoma City and at Orlando, Philadelphia’s defense let it down and defense is supposed to be a hallmark of the Sixers’ identity. The Cavs just took the Sixers down to the wire at Wells Fargo Center last Tuesday, in a one-point loss. We’re anticipating the home underdog entering with confidence in this spot and if Cleveland kept it within one in Philly, our guess is it can stay within seven at home.

Celtics (-3.5) @ Kings (215.5)

Pick: Kings +3.5

Sooner or later Boston is going to cool off right? We’re approaching a month since the Celtics lost. Brad Stevens’ team comes in on a 10-game winning streak and their only loss was in their season opener in Philadelphia on Oct. 23. That winning streak is going to come to an end on the current five-game west coast trip the Celtics are on. We thought it might happen on Friday in San Francisco in what looked like a prototypical flat spot for the Celtics against Golden State. Boston kept its winning streak alive but failed to cover which kept us happy. Our guess is if you blindly fade the Celtics ATS in each of the five games on their road trip, you’ll hit at least three of the five games. We’ve already got one in the bag and will certainly go back to the well with the Kings at home catching over three. The Kings have recently covered against the Lakers, Trail Blazers and Raptors so despite their poor straight-up record, we’re confident they’ll continue to exceed the oddsmakers’ expectations for them in games against superior competition.
