What's happening, MLB fans? I hope all of y'all had fantastic weekends. We won our series bet on the Toronto Blue Jays, so that was a nice result for the good guys. Our MLB player props now sit at 138-108 for the season.
Monday's MLB betting board has lots of interesting matchups, and I've found some nice betting value on the Padres vs. Mariners tilt at 9:40 PM Eastern Time. Let's take a closer look at the starting pitchers and lineups before giving out our best player prop for August 25.
Let's week's plays netted us a nice profit of +4.9 units, so let's build on that positive mojo by putting Monday in the win column! Best of luck, sports betting amigos.
Oddsmakers are making the Mariners a slight favorite in this matchup, as the opening line priced the team from Seattle as a -125 favorite at home. There hasn't been much action on the side so far, and the line now sits in the -121 to -132 range in favor of the M's.
Judging by the run total, sportsbooks are expecting a low amount of scoring in this one. The number opened at 8 runs, with the juice on the Under in the -115 to -120 range. There's been no major line moves to report on the total as of Monday morning.
The Padres made more deals than any other team at the MLB trade deadline. One of San Diego's acquisitions was JP Sears, a nice little lefty they brought in from the A's. Sears doesn't have the most electric stuff in the world, but he has good command and the ability to induce weak contact.
Sears has six different pitches in his arsenal, but his best offering is his sweeper. He'll need to have that pitch dialed in tonight against Seattle, a team that ranks 10th in WRC+ against lefties this season.
Since Sears pitched for the A's for several years, he's seen quite a bit of this Seattle offense. He's allowed 4 homers to the M's, but they're hitting just .172 against him in 135 plate appearances.
Bryce Miller has struggled mightily all season long, and I was actually shocked that the Mariners activated him from the IL last week. The young righty has missed a ton of time due to injuries, and he's yet to find the form that led to a dominant 2024.
Miller uses seven different pitches, but he's mainly a fastball-slider kind of guy during most of his outings. He hasn't faced the Padres too often, but he's had a nice run against them through 35 batters faced.
The key question tonight will be whether or not Miller can find his groove. He was lit up pretty badly by the Phillies last week for 4 earned runs in what was his first start in two and a half months.
For our top player prop in MLB today, let's fade poor ole Bryce Miller. The Mariners righty has been dogged by injuries all year long, and he's been lit up like a Christmas tree when he actually has been on the mound.
The 27-year-old has one of the worst ERAs in baseball this season among starting pitchers. The Padres have been kind of middle of the pack in offense this season, but they've been a lot better lately.
San Diego ranks 10th in WRC+ this month, and something tells me that Fernando Tatis Jr and Manny Machado could get to Miller early in this one. Let's play the Over with confidence here, folks. Good luck!
