Happy Tuesday, fellow sports investors! Monday was rough for us on the MLB side of things. We went 2-4 to run our record to 99-79 on player props this season. It was just one of those weird nights where we lost a couple of plays by the dreaded hook.
Kodai Senga had kind of a rough start against the Angels, as he gave up some early runs and only managed to muster up 5 Ks against their free-swinging lineup. Jack Flaherty also suffered a similar fate, as he struck 6 batters in only 3 innings, but was pulled early against the Pirates.
Thankfully, we were able to bag two winners on Zack Wheeler and Jacob Lopez. Wheeler struck out 10 Red Sox hitters, which further improved his chances of taking home the NL Cy Young award. Lopez struggled a bit against the Rangers but still found 6 Ks to cash our plus money prop.
It's time to shake it off and move on. Let's bounce back strong with 2 strikeout props for Tuesday, July 22nd. Best of luck, mi amigos.
A's at TEX - 8:05 PM EDT
I just can't jump off the Jake deGrom train, even though he failed to cash for us a few weeks back against the Angels. Even with that disappointing start, deGrom has still been very good to us on the mound this season. The 37-year-old has the nastiest slider in baseball, and he'll use it early and often against the A's.
deGrom has already faced the A's twice this season, but that was way back in April. It was one of those weird instances where he went up against them twice in six days. He struck out 13 hitters in those two starts combined.
The A's have the 11th-highest strikeout rate in baseball against righties, but they've been fanning even more frequently of late. Over the last 30 days, the A's have the 2nd-highest K-rate in the game. All of this tells me that deGrom has a great chance of bringing home 7 or more Ks.
MIN at LAD - 10:10 PM EDT
The Dodgers have been scuffling pretty badly here lately, but Yamamoto is just the guy to set things straight for them. The 26-year-old ace always seems to dominate teams that haven't seen his stuff. That's almost the exact situation we have tonight, as Harrison Bader is the only Twin who has ever faced Yamamoto.
Yamamoto spots his fastball well, and he uses his splitter to induce lots of weak ground balls. He ranks in the 84th percentile in K-rate and the 90th percentile in ground ball rate. Minnesota ranks just 21st in WRC+ against righties this season, so this should be an ideal matchup for Yamamoto.
The Twins also struggle against Yamamoto's pitch mix. Minny ranks just 23rd against the 4-seamer, and Yama throws it 38% of the time. He also throws his splitter 26% of the time, and the Twinkies rank just 20th against that. Give me a plus money Under to close out the Tuesday card.
