Mark Eckel's 2020 American League predictions: Which teams will move on, who will win Cy Young, MVP and more?
Can the New York Yankees get back to, and win a World Series, for the first time in over a decade?
Are the Boston Red Sox finished, at least for the time being?
Who will be the team to surprise the way the 100-win Minnesota wins did a year ago?
And what will happen with the Houston Astros, still talented but the scourge of the league?
Read on for predictions on those and more from the American League.
East: Yankees
Injuries have already begun. Is this going to be 2019 all over again? If it is the Yanks will cruise to another division crown.
Central: Twins
This is a really good team that can do just about everything well, except beat the Yankees.
West: Angels
There is always a surprise, right? This is ours. The addition of Anthony Rendon gives the Angels the two best hitters in the game. The other is that Mike Trout guy. And they also added the game’s best manager in Joe Maddon.
Wild Cards: A’s, White Sox
Oakland makes its third straight wild-card appearance, while the White Sox are my other AL surprise team.
Playoffs
Wild-Card: White Sox over A’s
ALDS: Yankees over White Sox; Twins over Angels
ALCS: Yankees over Twins
Individual Awards
MVP: Mike Trout, Angels
Cy Young: Gerrit Cole, Yankees
Rookie of the Year: Luis Robert, White Sox
Manager of the Year: Joe Maddon, Angels
