Over/Under win predictions for Phillies, Yankees, Mets plus the best O/U picks across the majors

Spring training games began over the weekend in both Florida and Arizona and the Major League Baseball regular season is just about a month away.

So with that in mind we here at BettorsInsider.com thought it might be a good time to look at some over/under season totals and tell you what we think.

First we’ll look at the Yankees, Mets and Phillies and then give you our best bets around the league.

Yankees (101.5): That’s a seriously high number and the Yanks have only topped it once in the past five years when they won 103 last season. The addition of Gerrit Cole made a decent starting rotation one of the tops in the league. You would think the team couldn’t have more injury problems than it had a year ago. But already pitchers James Paxton (back surgery) and Luis Severino (elbow problems) are on the shelf.

The Pick: It’s a big number, but you can’t bet against it. The AL East isn’t what it was, especially with Boston trading away its best player, take the over but don’t go crazy.

Mets (86.5): This is pretty simple. The Mets won 86 games last year, so if you think they’ll be better than last year take the over. If you don’t think they will be as good as last year take the under. It’s not exactly brain surgery. The team didn't make any major additions, although Dellin Betances, if healthy, will solidify the bullpen in a big way.

The Pick: Any optimism around the club is based on the 46-25 finish to the 2019 season and any carryover it has to this year. Again, I like the over, but it’s not a real strong play.

Phillies (85.5): The Phillies haven’t won that many games since 2011 when they won 102 and then proceeded to lose in the NLDS. They have averaged just 72 wins over the past five years, with last year’s 81 wins the most of the past five years. Is Joe Girardi, the cure-all, for this club? If you think so, take the over and hope. Starting pitcher Zach Wheeler will help, but keep in mind he’s never won more than 11 games in a season.

The Pick: Take the under for a club that will be the first to ever top 11,000 losses. This looks like another .500, or so season in a tough NL East.

The Best Over Bets: White Sox (81.5), Rockies (75.5), Reds (82.5).

The Best Under Bets: Red Sox (93.5), Cubs (88.5), Pirates (73.5).
