Friday’s Race Recap from Aqueduct:

(All odds US)

Aqueduct:

Race 1: 1st@ 7.10/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 5: 1st@ 2.00/1 - BEST BET 🔥🔥🔥

Race 9: 6th@ 21.00/1

In Race 1, it sure wasn’t pretty but Golden Purchase got us the WIN at 7/1 while stalking the pace and bearing out late. In Race 5, Nikitis stalked the pace and took a run at the 1/1 favored leader turning for home. She appeared to be spinning her wheels until the leader brushed the rail and Nikitis got enough momentum to get up for a BEST BET WIN. In Race 9, the debuting Zhen Lou bounced out and battled with 36/1 fellow debut runner Flight Control. Zhen Lou took a stumble on the far turn and faded after that as the 36/1 shot scored.

A pair of wins to start December is just what the doctor ordered!

Let’s hit Aqueduct’s final MAJOR race day of 2023 - Cigar Mile/Remsen day! Great racing and we may have some overnight showers, so I’ll handicap accordingly.

Aqueduct:

Race 7: Most of All - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

The Grade 2 Demoiselle at a mile and an eighth is our first of four stakes races on today’s card and features a nice collection of two-year-old fillies looking to make a name for themselves. Sure, we’ve got one exiting the Breeders’ Cup and several others exiting stakes races but I’m siding with a Bill Mott runner from the powerhouse Godolphin barn named Most of All who’s exiting an off-the-turf maiden race. Her first two races were nothing special, but she absolutely dismantled a field of four overmatched rivals last time out in the slop here at Aqueduct. A daughter of Quality Road from the family of Grade 1 winner Frosted, Most of All has the breeding to be a force in this division next year and think she stamps herself as an early contender with a win in today’s Demoiselle.

Race 8: Saddle Up Jessie - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

The Grade 3 Go for Wand for older fillies and mares at a mile is next up. There’s a good amount of speed lined up here and I’m siding with a new face, Saddle Up Jessie, for trainer Brittany Russell, who’s winning at 25% on the year. Claimed for $20K in California earlier this year she was shipped to the mid-Atlantic and crushed a maiden field after some time off. She followed that up with an allowance win and even put up her top turf speed figure after five prior tries on that surface. She switched back to the main track and improved her speed figures in two more consecutive races. There are no killers in this race and there’s really no reason why this improving runner, who will be overlooked in the wagering, can’t step up and snatch this win.

Race 9: Domestic Product - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)

The Grade 2 Remsen is the unofficial first race on the 2024 road to the triple crown for the NY circuit. I like Domestic Product in this spot. He ran into some killers in his debut effort but came back with an eye-catching win second time out, winning at today’s mile and an eighth distance right here at Aqueduct: The only runner in the field who has done both. He hails from a barn who knows what to do with a strong two-year-old but what I liked best about his most recent start was the efficient stride he has, where he galloped out so strongly. I think his stablemate, Sierra Leone, is his main danger and don’t think much of Dornoch who gets overbet in every start because his full brother, Mage, won the derby this year. Domestic Product - BEST BET WIN.

Race 10: Everso Mischievous - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 4/1)

The Grade 2 Cigar Mile is the feature race on today’s card. Everso Mischievous is the selection here for trainer Brad Cox, who’s 22% on the meet. A winner of 4 of 6 starts with two narrow defeats, Everso Mischievous runs his race every time. Last time out he had every reason to lose in the Grade 2 Forty Niner right here at Aqueduct. He was stalking a pretty quick early pace, Film Star (who’s run first or second in 9 of 12 starts this year and just ran 2nd in the Grade 2 Woodward) forced his hand early by moving on his outside early. So Everso Mischievous had to put away the speedy Swiftsure and hold off Film Star. Not only did Everso Mischievous put away the speed and turn back Film Star, he also turned back another quality stakes placed rival, Accretive, and also turned away the stakes winner of 7 of 12 starts, Dr. Ardito. Everso Mischievous is a good quality horse and I don’t think he’s getting the respect he deserves just yet so I’m happy to take 4/1 on this guy.

Best of luck to all our members playing Saturday’s races from Aqueduct!
