Good morning racing fans!! We are back for another exciting week of racing from around the U.S. I’ll be spending the bulk of my time at Gulfstream Park this week with a quick detour to Fair Grounds for the Grade 2 Risen Star on Saturday. In the meantime we’ve got some Wednesday racing to get to at Gulfstream. Fast and firm conditions are expected. I’m a little disappointed with the abundance of polytrack races and the lack of turf races over these next few days. There are also very few maiden claiming races which have been our bread and butter so I’ll be picking my spots selectively. Let’s get started!
Wednesday at Gulfstream Park:
Race 7: Sir Samuel - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 6/1)
Mid-level claimers race a mile and seventy yards on the polytrack surface here. Honesto is lined at 3/1 and will probably be lower than that by post time but he’s disappointed as the favorite before and he’s honestly not all that much better than some others in here who will offer better value. Sir Samuel is one such horse. Samuel hails from low profile connections but is the only runner in the field with wins at both the track and distance. Last time out he ran a near-career best effort to miss the win by a neck on turf and prior to that he‘s handled the synthetic just fine. Back in November he only finished a diminishing 1/2 length behind today’s post time favorite. With a better trip I think he gets there today.
