Thursday’s Race Recap from Saratoga:

(All odds US)

Replays for yesterday’s races from Saratoga can be found here:

Saratoga:

Race 2: 6th@ 11.70/1

Race 6: 1st@ 3.55/1 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Race 7: 5th@ 8.30/1

In Race 2, our debuting Gustiamo was reserved at the back while tugging under stout restraint, dropped back more under a very tight hold leaving the backstretch, moved from the rail to the two path on the turn, was finally roused nearing the quarter pole, came under the crop in upper stretch and failed to threaten. In Race 6, we got our revenge when Lachaise stalked the early pace from fourth and took the lead in mid-stretch while being a little tough to handle down the lane at 3.55/1 odds. Before Race 7 the rains came and it rained torrentially for about fifteen minutes. They stayed on turf and Spicy Marg went to the lead and never looked back. Secret Time got moving too late and probably would prefer the elongated turf sprints found at Belmont.

We’re back to Saratoga for Friday’s races and there is a 50% chance of thunderstorms for basically the next week there. This is the time of year where it’ll be sunny and humid one minute and the skies will open up the next minute washing us off the turf so I’m hoping we can avoid the storms as much as possible. So bring your umbrella and let’s get started !

Friday at Saratoga:

Race 10: Miss Malala - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 30/1)

We opened our day with maiden claimers so we’re going to close the day the same way. A rough-looking group of NY bred maiden claimers sprint 7 furlongs. Big Bean Christine will likely vie for favoritism here as she comes out of a race where she made a big move on the turn and sustained her rally to miss by a head. Her speed figure came up 53 for a barn that’s 0 for 15 on the year. Another likely favorite is Wicked Lady who actually owns the race’s highest overall speed figures on dirt but that was last year and in two starts this year she’s lost by a combined 43 lengths. Skyward Princess is another untrustworthy looking horse off three losses on turf for Chad Brown trying dirt for the first time. I landed on the longest price on the board – Miss Malala who has been getting her butt kicked on turf, but that’s not a surface she’s bred for. Her form is a little muddied up with those last four grass starts. Prior to that she was improving her dirt form, almost doubling her speed figures with each start. Miss Malala owns the field’s best closing figure of the dirt runners and will be a HUGE price here. I like her going turf to dirt and cutting back here in distance and class while facing a slew of front-runners with no staying power. Bombs away to end the day!

Best of luck to everyone playing Friday’s races from Saratoga!
