We kicked off Black-Eyed Susan Day with a WIN as Never Explain stalked the early pacesetter and turned back the challenges of King Vega and Royne enroute to victory. In Race 5 we took a shot with Papal Law coming from off the pace. He was taken 6 wide entering the stretch and rallied late but it was too little too late to reach the top. In Race 7, Kentucky Pharoah was sent to the lead by Julian Leparoux and led every yard til the final 1/16th of a mile when he was reeled in up the rail by English Tavern and had to settle for 2nd at 6/1. In Race 9, Murph was sent to the early lead and held til right around the 1/8th pole when she packed up her tent for the day and raised the white flag before fading to 6th. In the Pimlico Special it was First Captain winning a battle of attrition against Vindictive. In the Black-Eyed Susan, our selection, Beguine, was sent to the lead aggressively. Too aggressively- through a punishing half mile of 46.2 and was still there til just before mid-stretch when the oxygen mask fell from the ceiling and she was essentially pulled up fading to the back. Gave us a thrill for 8 1/4 furlongs at 11/1 odds.
