Race 5: 5th@ 6.20/1
Race 6: 1st@ 6.40/1 💥💥💥💥💥
Race 9: 3rd@ 0.80/1
Race 10: LATE SCRATCH
My Brother Neil got our week off to a choppy start with a ho-hum effort in Race 5. In Race 6, Shining Colors got us right back onto the winning track with a strong win as she took the race to the speed and drew away at an overlaid 6/1. In Race 9, Into the Sunrise didn’t win the break and that spelled doom for his chances. Our selection in Race 10 was a late scratch.
We look ahead to Thursday’s races at Saratoga. We’re expecting balmy temperatures with the possibility of a pop-up thunderstorm. Let’s get to the action!
Thursday picks for Saratoga:
Race 3: Simply Ravishing - 2 pts win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)
The Saratoga Dew Handicap at a mile and an eighth on the main track and the morning line oddsmaker realized the fact that trainer Ken McPeek has gotten off to a slow start at this meet (0 for 12) after his barn was under quarantine for the first half of the meet which disrupted race scheduling. Taking that into consideration, I think odds of 7/2 on a Grade 1 winner heading into New York state-bred company for the first time is worth a bet. Despite his losing effort, McPeek’s Swiss Skydiver ran very well in the Whitney against some of the best male runners out there. Simply Ravishing owns positional speed from the inside and a 1 for 1 record here at Saratoga.
Race 4: Spungie - 2 pts win - BEST BET (US Morning Line Odds: 8/5)
Turf milers race a mile here and Spungie looks like she’s got a few advantages here which earn her the “BEST BET” distinction. First, she’s got positional speed with a top trainer and jockey in her corner. More importantly thought she appears to be the class of this field. A $250k purchase so there are some expectations here and she’s improved in every subsequent race since her debut earning the field's top speed figure last time out. Two back she lost by a neck on Belmont Stakes Day to Runaway Rumor who subsequently won a stakes race next time out. Imposing.

Race 8: Mojovation - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 12/1)
Allowance runners race 7 furlongs and for a race of this caliber I’m surprised there’s not more speed entered. For that reason I’m taking a chance with Mojovation who’s a little behind these from a speed figure standpoint but he’s got positional speed on the inside and races in his form that fit here. He has a win at the track and will have to resurrect his 2020 form but if jockey Tyler Gaffalione is left alone to walk the dog on the lead, this one could be gone.
Best of luck 🍀🍀🍀 to everyone playing Thursday’s races from beautiful and BALMY 😓Saratoga !
