A couple of two year old races on tap today.

Thistledown Race 2 – $30K Maiden Special Weight

2yo Buckeye breds going 4.5 furlongs

#1 Condemnation (3/1) has turned in noteworthy :48.8 breeze from the gate. His dam, Southern Silence has had two foals and they both won in their debut. Speightster, his sire, has foals that have won at 13% in first asking. #2 Stalking Moon (5/2) is out of sire Gormley, a black type winner who is somewhat new to the breeding shed. He has four foals in training and two of those won on debut with one nearly missing, while the last ran fourth. Stalking Moon fired off two :48 gate works and trainer Mike Maker with jockey Jose Bracho are winning at 18%. #6 Thedayofthegrey (7/2) already gelded at age 2, he has fired two bullets out of his final two workouts. This is truly one for the underdog. His Sire is a horse named Twinspired, who qualified and ran in the Kentucky Derby yet finished 17th, and his dam is Sharon’s Way, who won once in 22 races. I am opting to go with #4 Crypto Copy (8/1) who has just three workouts. We saw how Behave Virginia won with just three workouts in a $100K msw on Thursday, so anything is possible. Crypto is also out of Bayern and his dam is Alasta Crypto who has had three foals, and all have won their bow.

Indiana Downs Race 1 - $35K Maiden Special Weight

2yo Hoosier breds going five furlongs

#2 Highcotton Justice (3/1) has two solid gate works in :48.8, his dam, Traditionalist, has a 20% first win rate with her foals and his sire, Harry’s Holiday, is 9% first wins. #3 Casper Justice (9/5) is that low on the morning line and it is tough to figure out why. Trainer Cipriano Contreras is 17% with first timers and 31% with 2yo’s, which is good. His sire, Elusive Bluff has a 10% win rate with first time foals and his dam, With Wonder, has just one foal who won her debut – and that was in her four year old season. His best workout was a :48 and his best gate work his only, was a :49.8. I will pass. #6 Compressed Energy (9/2) is going to get my bet today. He just completed a :48.4 gate work on 5/22, the best of this group. If Fernando De La Cruz gets him out of the gate cleanly, he will get the lead and not look back.

Happy Hunting 😊
