Charles Town Races picks for Thursday — RT breaks down the 2nd and 3rd using the SmartCap system

Yesterday, we had the winner in both races, yet failed to identify the right horse to bet on.

Today, we are going to rainy Charles Town, Wv. for two races.

Charles Town Race 2 - $5K Starter Allowance for WVa bred 3yo+ NW$5 going 7F - post time 7:30 pm EDT

This would be a three-horse race without the rain.

#1 Step Out Dancing (6/1) has next best last race and third best overall speed and class. He is dropping out of the allowance ranks and frankly, probably needs to start chasing claimers again. Additionally, he is 5:0-1-0 in mud. Pass

#3 Charitable Spenny (9/5) third off the layoff, our best last numbers and second best overall class and speed, this gelding is a dead nut front end runner. The rest of the field will have to play catch up. He will be challenged, albeit lightly, on the front end by the 7, 5 & 2, however, it’ll be over for them about halfway thru.

#6 Rocket Road (5/2) has best overall class, speed and best last. With a trainer who is 30% moving class down, 23% with horses off the bench, a hot jock hitting 33% the last 10 days, and a closer in a race full of speed, this is my choice.

Charles Town Race 3 - $28K Allowance for 3yo+ NWx or NW2 - post time 7:57 pm EDT

#1 Port More (10/1) has best last and that is because he is coming off a 7 furlong effort in a similar allowance race where he chased the leaders before tiring. Today, he cuts back to a distance where he is 2:1-0-0 for $8K. He will be a force in the stretch and fits well with this group.

#2 Windsor Legend (20/1) has second best overall class and speed. Look for him to attempt to chase the lead and will more than likely falter.

#4 Unnamed Soldier (6/1) has best overall speed and gets a 7/7 for early speed. First off the claim for Yolanda King, where she is 0% in this situation, she will be on the lead.

#7 Pettinberg (2/1) drops from the allowance ranks and back into the starter level, this is a spot where he fits much better. Third off the layoff and hitting a solid number last out, this gelding is another speeder and can wore the field. Has our best overall class, second best overall speed and co-best last.

I am going with the 1 – Port More. Call it greed….10/1 for this guy is too hard to pass up.
