Musings:

I sent out an email blast late yesterday regarding Cinderela El Crome, a key race horse running at Mountaineer in the 8th race. The horse chased Runnin’toluvya, the $1M Charles Town Classic winner, and I stated that I was going to pound the bet if it went off at anything north of 1-1. It did and I pounded it. Lo and behold, Cinderela ran 2nd, beaten by another key race horse named Bebopaleon whom I released and it paid $33.80. Ouch.

Rent is due in two days, so let’s make some money to pay for that

Race 1
$12.5K Claimers NW2 3yo+ 4.5f
5 – Base Jumper (8/1) crushed the field last out in an MSW race winning by 8 lengths. Has been on hiatus since November and peeled off 4 workouts in preparation for this, including one at 5f.

4 – Wild Colonial Boy (7/2) getting major class relief after being eased last out in late December as the favorite. Aqueduct leading trainer Linda Rice saddles this gray gelding who is cutting back in distance and had a steady work schedule.

1 – Hazen’s Notch (9/2) consistent performer, numbers-wise, Hazen has a pressing style in longer races and today gets a cutback. Like most of the others here, he’s been on the bench and has worked forwardly.

3 – Lumberer (7/5) FL legendary tandem of Davila/Engelhart for this colt, Lumberer broke his maiden last November in an MSW in the slop. He’ll take a lot of money in this and will be in exotics, however, am not going to back a newly minted 3yo, first out versus older.
Finger Lakes race 1 Bets
5 - $20/w $40/p
$2 Exacta Box 5-1-4
$1 Tri 1-4/1-4-3/5, 1-4/5/1-4-3, 5/1-4/1-4-3
$5 DD 5-4/2

Race 2
$5K Maiden Claimers F&M 3yo+ going 4.5f
2 – Shanghai Smile (7/2) we’re getting the bro v bro action today with Shanghai and the 3. Jeff Engelhart has this filly and she’s had two outings this year at the Big A. Even though she’s a 3yo, I’m going with this filly because of her class drop and two races prior this year.

8 – Protect The King (6/1) again, staying with older horses because the 3, Give Me A Hug, a 3 year old, as well as the 2, Shanghai Smile, will be a heavy favorite in this race. Protect The King has raced seven times this year already getting one place and two shows.

5 – Reyana Reya Dreams (12-1) gets blinkers on for the first time and drops for a tag after entering an MSW at CT on April 19th.

3 – Give Me A Hug (1/1) can’t see myself going with an even odds or less favorite regardless of her class and Davila/Engelhart connections. Using her in exotics, however makes sense.
Finger Lakes Race 2 Bets
2 - $20/w $40/p
$2 Exacta Box 2-3-8
$1 Trifecta 8-5/8-5-3/2, 8-5/2/8-5-3, 2/8-5/8-5-3

Race 3
$5K Claimers NWsince F&M 3yo+ 4.5f
3 – Chump Change (12/1) shipper from Mahoning Valley will find this strip easier going. Had a blowout race in mid-January and her prior race was in the mud and she didn’t like slogging in the heavy mud. Her two races previously were at FL where she pinged solid numbers and hit the board both times. Chump has a Finger lakes record of 25:8-6-4 for $78,851

8 – Sweet Shallots (12/1) 2 wins out of her last 4 races here before hanging it up for the season. Sweet has clicked off two terrific works recently and will play a factor

10 – Colonial Lass (7/2) 5yo mare is getting her first race since October, her last three at FL comprised of two wins and a place. She’ll be there.
Finger Lakes Race 3 Bets
3 - $20/w $40/p
$2 Exacta Box 3-8-10
$1 Trifecta 10-8/10-8-6/3, 10-8/3/10-8-6, 3/10-8/10-8-6

The Rest of the Card:
4) 7 – Hackensack Hill
5) 3 – Awillaway
6) 1 – Tousled
7) 5 – Mr. Freud and 6 – Rico Capote
8) 6 – Princess Dream
9) 4 – Haudenosaunee
10) 5 - Granderella
