Musings:

“Jeopardy !” James Strikes Again!

On Tuesday, wonder boy Jeopardy James crushed his opponents and banked $106,181.00 giving him a 9-day total of $566,660.00. The guy is on fire and has no discernible flaws in his breadth of knowledge. Watch it.

Congratulations to Josie Carroll. Josie is the first female trainer to be inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall Of Fame.

Congratulations to Rodney Prescott for scoring the hat trick yesterday, including the daily double at Indiana Downs.

Mike Smith chooses to ride Omaha Beach over Roadster. I suppose Smith’s last ride convinced him of Omaha’s class, stamina and speed. Truly, for now, it doesn’t matter because post position is the mitigating factor.

Question - how fast do you switch channels as soon as you hear that inane and tired “she shed” commercial? Pico? Nano? Micro? Or, “like the wife and kids, I’ve learned to block it out?”

Trying something different today by analyzing the three highest purses on the Indiana Grand card. The remaining card picks are below these.

Indiana Grand Race 4
$31K MSW Indy Bred 3, 4 and 5yo’s going 5.5f

The Skinny:

The track appeared to be playing from true to a speed bias yesterday. This race will have quite a bit of early speed and whomever can control the pace, will win.

1-Roman Creed (7/2) normally, this would be a horse to pass on. Nonetheless, this field is full of lightly raced horses with two first time starters and several off layoffs. Roman is of the latter, vis-à-vis, his last race was July of ’18. Additionally, in that race, his first and only, was on the grass which, at first glance would be a red flag. His sire and dam did not race on the turf, So, as he went off at 59/1 and it makes you wonder if the trainer was just getting him some experience. After watching the replay, this is one game colt. Roman drew from off the pace and ran green, darting his head back and forth and Declan Gannon fought and finally got him somewhat settled as he dug in and gave it his all.

3-Brightworthy (6/1) two races, two claims and the last race makes it a re-claim by Dane Kobiskie. Previous trainer, Ollie Figgins has a 17% win rate and Kobiskie has a 24% win rate, telling me that two experienced trainers like that claiming the same horse know something more than us. A play.

5-Equal Justice (5/2) 2nd Lasix and having the speed jump parallel to his right, Distorted Humor colt will take the lead only to have the 3, 1, or both pass him down the stretch

Indiana Grand Race 4 Bets:
1 - $20/w, $40/p
$2 Exacta Box 1-3-5
$1 Trifecta 3-5/3-5-8/1, 3-5/1/3-5-8, 1/3-5/3-5-8

Race 5
$34.5K Allowance 3yo+ N2W Indy Breds going 5.5f

Handicapping this race reminds you of playing hearts….”can one of these shoot the moon?”

The Skinny:

5-Flowerpecker (4/1) sixty years of roaming Earth; most of those with a potty mouth and toilet humor, and never heard it called that before. Ran in the Indiana Futurity last out, in November, grabbed the lead and couldn’t sustain. Two encouraging works at the track and he has a chance to steal.

7-Michael’s Tarnation (10/1) simply put, Tarnation here is going to jump out in front, try to control/hold the pace with Pecker and one of them will attempt to wire the field.

4-Squadron Commander (3/1) if any horse is going to catch the above two, this guy, ahem, newly gelded horse, is it. Bernard Flint/Rodney Prescott tandem clipping at 20% and since getting denied what most of us men live for, he has worked out like a…...wait for it………STUD.

Indiana Grand Race 5 Bets
4 - $20/w $40/p
$2 Exacta Box 7-4-3

Race 6
$34K MSW Indiana Bred 3-5-5yo Maidens Going 5.5f

The question is, can (2/5) 7-Barefootbootlegger be beat? If it can happen, look for 1-Kentucky Sky (8/1) to pull it off. Pass this race.

Race 1, 6-Daakee (15/1) 4-year-old vs 3 year olds’ carrying less weight. Think Secretariat vs. Onion.

Race 2, 3-Ferocious Tiger (4/1) Haw shipper notched a sold v for1st trainer last out. 7:3-1-1 at Indy.

Race 3, 7-Eagle Two (20/1) big class drop, solid works, claimed from Kiaran McGlaughlin

Race 7, 6-She Might Tell (6/1) Rodney Prescott retains mount after off the pace score last out

Race 8, 7-Thatswhatithought (4/1) 2nd Lasix, 6 works since last and each an improvement over the other
