The PGA Tour heads to new territory this week for the Truist Championship, held at the historic Philadelphia Cricket Club in Pennsylvania. While the club dates back to the 1800s, this is the Tour’s first-ever event at the venue. While this is usually played at Quail Hollow every year, that course is where the PGA Championship next week will be hosted.
This is a no-cut event, meaning every golfer in the field will play all four rounds, which always makes this a tricky betting market. Setting up as a tune-up for next week’s PGA Championship, I expect these guys to be as locked in as they can be for a new course.
This classic A.W. Tillinghast designed course is a Par 70, 7119 yards with many straight-lined fairways. Golfers must be weary of the deep bunkers off the tee, and around the greens. Players that have good approach play, and good scrambling should fare well on this course.
Xander is the definition of consistency, especially in elite fields and no-cut formats. Also, in golfers first time events at new courses, Xander ranks 4th in strokes gained total.
Since the BMW Championship in 2023, he has had 19 Top 10 finishes. Starting this season injured has derailed his overall results, but I love what he has put together in his past 3 events with T18, T8, and T12 finishes.
One of the biggest talking points this week has been approaching the green, which he ranks 5th on tour. I trust his ability to avoid bogeys, especially on a new course, and he is trending to make another run of top finishes. He is 66th in birdie average and 45th in greens in regulation, which I expect both to be much higher after the next few weeks.
We will keep riding the Spieth train as he cashed out our readers nicely last week with another Top 20 finish. Out of all the players in the field, playing at a new course, he ranks 8th in strokes gained total.
Spieth has made a major turnaround since last season and his wrist injury in the past. He has 4 straight Top 20 finishes, and 6 in his last 9 events. He ranks 17th in strokes gained total, 38th off the tee, 48th in approach, and 56th in putting.
He has been putting it all together over the last few months. He's coming off a 4th place last week, gaining strokes total, tee-to-green, and putting in 5 straight events gives me all the confidence to back him again.
Fleetwood continued his scorching run at RBC Heritage, his last event, with a 7th-place finish. Since the Olympics last year, he has 13 Top 20 finishes with 4 other events finishing between 21st and 22nd place.
He has been locked in across his bag, over the last 36 rounds, Fleetwood ranks 5th in the field in total strokes gained. He also ranks 12th in total strokes gained and 9th in approach to the green this season.
Berger has quietly returned to form after an extended injury layoff, with two Top 10s to his name this season. Over the last 36 rounds, he ranks 2nd in this field in total strokes gained.
Coming off a T3 at the RBC Heritage, he has 8 straight Top 30 finishes, and dating back to the RSM Classic, he has 7 Top 20s. He ranks in the top 50 in all 4 strokes gained categories, 9th in total.
To give us + money on a guy who has been a Top 20 machine this season is slightly crazy, perhaps a trap, but I’ll bite. He has 7 Top 20 finishes this season, 3 Top 10s, coming off a T12 and T18, post Masters.
He ranks 6th in strokes gained total, 11th in approach to green, 38th in bogey avoidance, and 11th in scrambling. He has gained the 8th most strokes total in this field over the last 36 rounds.
