Wyndham Clark tops our list for Players Championship Underdogs

The Players Championship is here as the PGA’s best golfers ascend onto TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. As the PGA Players return to one of golf’s most prestigious and electric events, they all have their eyes on stopping 1 man! Scottie Scheffler, the world’s #1 golfer, is looking to cash in his third straight Players Championship. Can he do it?

Round 1: Wyndham Clark Under 70.5 Strokes

Running back out the same two in Clark and Conners seems a bit of a reach but it's what the data and research suggest! He has stayed under this mark in 4 of his 6 starts this season, 3 straight, and has 3 straight top-31 finishes.
His previous 2 years here have seen a 65 and a 68 in his round 1 play, and he is in the proper form to keep it rolling. To add to his recent success, he has also had success around TPC Sawgrass. He is coming off back to back finishes of 2 and T27 and could be knocking at the door for a victory here soon!

Round 1: Corey Conners Under 70.5 Strokes

Conners came through for us last time, and he has a good chance to find it again tomorrow. He has also been under this mark in 4 of his 6 events to start the season. He ranks 17th on tour in Round 1 Scoring average at 69.18, and is the 14th highest ranked in this field.

He has stayed under this mark in 3 of the last 4 Players Round 1, scoring 68 last year, 75, 70, and 68. Conners has also seen success at TPC Sawgrass with finishes of T13, T26, 7, T41, in 4 of his last 5 trips.

Round 1: Jason Day Under 70.5 Strokes

Day is a tricky one here based on his last two events, with terrible starts, but I have to let that slide here. Day may have this event's best round 1 average of any player. He has stayed under 70.5 strokes in 9 straight Players Championships.

His 1st round average is 70.25, and he has been under in 3 of his 6 events to start this season. He is coming off back2back weeks with 76 round 1’s, and I know he is looking for a better start tomorrow. He has 4 Top 35 finishes in his last 5 events here.

Round 1: Max Greyserman Under 71.0 Strokes

Taking a newbie is always a risk, not having course/event history is something that I weigh heavily. But Max is also one of the sharpest players we have backed repeatedly since last year. This number has a good chance to push, as I think he finds 70-71 in round 1.

In 8 events so far through 2025, he has stayed at 71 or under in 7 of those 8. Going back to 2024, his last 11 events, he stayed at or under in 9 of them. Do the math, and that's 16 of his last 19 events he has stayed under 71 strokes in round 1.
