The Thursday Philly Props: Carli Lloyd, United States, Women’s World Cup

It was nice of major league baseball to schedule the Phillies on an off day today, so we could devote The Philly Props to something other than baseball or basketball . . .

We have never been a real big soccer follower, but we always get drawn to the World Cups – men and women – especially when the United States can make some waves . . . and even moreso when a local player has some say in those waves.

Delran’s Carli Lloyd has more than enough international honors for any mantle in her home (her hat trick in the 2015 World Cup Final is still one of our favorite sports moments of all time), but at 36, she has at least one more go at it on the big stage.

She may be coming in off the bench as the United States team gets its 2019 World Cup action underway next Tuesday (June 11, 3 p.m., FOX) against Thailand, but make no mistake, she will have an impact.

As one of three captains for the defending World Cup champions (Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe are the others), don’t be surprised if once she gets on the pitch, she doesn’t leave.

We’ll get Lloyd involved in more Props as play gets underway, but for now, let’s put some money on her tournament performance as a whole.
