The Sunday Philly Props: Phillies and the Phantic Birthday

Elsewhere today (click here) we detail the Phillies’ performance on days the club celebrates the Phantic’s Birthday.

You didn’t think we would go to all that trouble to research those games and not come up with a betting angle, did you? Of course not . . . I mean, the Phanatic is the same color as money, right?

Not only are the Phillies 29-11 on those 39 celebrations (no game in 1984, but a doubleheader – both losses – to the Expos in 1997), the Phillies have jumped on the opposition early and often in most of these games.

They have outscored their opponents 47-15 in the first inning and 79-27 over the first two innings.

Maybe it is the early-afternoon pomps and circumstances that rattle the opposing pitchers early on or just the overall good jovial vibe that continues through the Phillies’ bats after the pregame celebration, but it is worth noting.

And worth wagering on. Especially since the Phillies have not scored a opening frame run in the last three Phanatic Birthday games. They are due:

Pick: Phillies win First Inning ($3/+240)
Pick: Phillies-Marlins First Inning Runs Over 0.5 ($4/-110)
Pick: Phillies First Three Innings -0.5 ($3/+112)
