We have three game picks for Friday’s WNBA action before your weekend begins. Starting in the East, the New York Liberty’s veteran squad should be able to match the Mystics’ speed, power, and shooting and make it a blowout from the tip-off.
Elsewhere, if you haven’t tuned into this Phoenix Mercury team, tonight will be a statement night for this new-look squad as they face the undefeated Lynx at home.
The Liberty have started their back-to-back tour with five straight victories, including three by 14 or more points.
After winning two close ones over the last week against Indiana and Golden State, I expect this squad to come out running against a Mystics team that has been punching above its weight early in the year.
We have seen some great play from Skyes, Iriafen, and Citron on the Washington side, but they have struggled to defend down the stretch against some of the better teams in the league, such as Phoenix and Las Vegas. With Natasha Cloud proving to be an A+ addition to this Liberty offense, I’m sensing a near blowout in the nation’s capital tonight.
The Seattle Storm have completely bounced back since their opening day loss to Phoenix, where they found themselves out of the battle early on.
They ripped off three straight Western Conference wins before losing by 5 to the undefeated Lynx on Tuesday by just five points. This team is well-rounded and can outpace a Dream squad that has played one of the easiest schedules in the W thus far through their six games.
Seattle’s Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike against the Atlanta backcourt isn’t a fair fight, and at home, Seattle should come out with an easy victory.
If you haven’t invested some stock in this new-look Phoenix Mercury team, do it now before it is too late. The Mercury is led by their two new stars in triple-double threat Alyssa Thomas and scoring forward/guard Satou Sabally, who should find herself in the MVP conversation later in the year.
With Kahleah Cooper still out of the lineup, this Phoenix team will give Vegas a run for the West title in a few months. Minnesota is 5-0 but has been faltering as of late, winning against Dallas, Connecticut, and Seattle by an average of five points. Phoenix has had the tougher schedule, and at home, they should get the job done.
