NFL Week 1 Predictions: 3 Upset Picks for Sunday, September 7

Week 1 of the NFL season is coming in HOT! Our pro football insider offers up 3 upset picks in this betting preview.

Week 1 is less than two weeks away. Let’s take a look at three away squads that can pull off an upset on opening night, including the Miami Dolphins, who could give Indy problems with Daniel Jones as the playcaller.

Elsewhere, Baltimore meets up with Buffalo once again in a rematch between two of the top QBs in the game.

Miami Dolphins (+102) vs Indianapolis Colts

Indy shocked many by selecting Daniel Jones to quarterback the first game and sitting Anthony Richardson. There is some real cause for concern here, given Jones has thrown 10 TDs to 13 INTs over the last two seasons.

The Dolphins' defense has a handful of playmakers such as Minkah Fitzpatrick, Jaelan Phillips, and Bradley Chubb. While it will be a tightly contested game because of the Colts’ pass catchers and Jonathan Taylor, I like Miami pulling off the week 1 upset.

Miami has won four straight during the opening week and will look for this trend to continue two weeks from now.

Houston Texans (+126) vs Los Angeles Rams

The Texans are looking for a bounce-back year after C.J. Stroud took a miniature step back in his sophomore season in the league.

With Joe Mixon, Nick Chubb, Nico Collins, Jayden Higgins, and Christian Kirk serving as the pass-catching options, Stroud is bound to put together a stellar season starting in Los Angeles, where McVay is still putting the pieces together in what looks to be an extremely veteran roster outside of Nacua.

Stroud has not thrown a pick in his first two games of each of the last two seasons and should be able to take care of the ball and let the Houston run game take over in a tightly contested game.

Baltimore Ravens (-102) vs Buffalo Bills

Lamar, Derrick, Zay, and the Ravens take on the MVP in Josh Allen to open the year. After a tough departure from last year’s postseason against Buffalo, Jackson and the Ravens will look for revenge in Lamar’s 8th year in the league.

Though the Bills' defense has held the former league MVP to less than 55 yards in all but one game against the Ravens, Jackson should step up and enter the new year as an MVP favorite after taking down their arch-rival.

Buffalo’s defense needs a lot of work, and in my eyes, the offense does not have enough consistent weapons to beat this hungry Ravens defense.
