We are officially entering the best time of year for sports fans. The college football and NFL seasons are in full swing, the NHL and NBA are just around the corner, and the MLB playoffs started yesterday. Four teams won yesterday, giving the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, and the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 start to the series.
Will any of their opponents make the series competitive today? Or, will we see four 2-0 sweeps, which has been a common trend in the new era of the Wild Card round?
We’ve compiled our favorite player props ahead of these contests, hoping to sweep the board after going 2-1 yesterday. Let’s get into it!
Tarik Skubal was amazing for the Tigers yesterday, mowing down an impressive 14 Cleveland Guardians batters. He’s the Tigers’ ace by a long shot, and when people talk about this team, he’s often the first person they mention.
However, Casey Mize is no slouch, and he can rack up the Ks when it matters most. He had at least five strikeouts in two of his three outings against the Guardians during the regular season, a good indication that he can hit this total again today.
Plus, with their backs against the wall, being down 0-1 in the series, the Guardians could get a bit more desperate and swing-happy.
This feels like a great line for someone 6th in the league in strikeouts during the regular season. The San Diego Padres are down 0-1 to the Cubs in this series, but if anyone can help get them out of a jam, it’s Cease.
Chicago was propelled by two timely home runs yesterday, and if they don’t get that help, their offensive production could be stymied by Cease.
Look for him to bring his best stuff early, easily achieving six Ks by the time his day is done.
Carlos Rodon was a top 10 pitcher in the bigs during the regular season in strikeouts, but we’re actually fading him against the Boston Red Sox.
He didn’t achieve six Ks against them during the regular season, and considering how much momentum the Red Sox have at the moment, it’s hard to picture them having an off day at the plate.
Rodon has good stuff, but for whatever reason, the Sox see him well, so we’re projecting him to have fewer than six strikeouts in this outing.
