Good morning racing fans. We’ve made it to Belmont Stakes week!

As a lead in to Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, I’m going to include a replay each day of a Belmont Stakes from years past that captures some of the moments that make our sport so amazing.

This first BELMONT STAKES replay is the 1997 Belmont Stakes. Silver Charm fought to a hard-earned victory in the Kentucky Derby against the likes of Captain Bodgit, Free House and Pulpit. In the Preakness, Silver Charm won a battle of attrition against Free House, Captain Bodgit and Touch Gold. The stage was set for Silver Charm to become America’s first Triple Crown winner since 1978 as Belmont Park was filled to the rafters with fans cheering on Silver Charm. Here’s what happened:

We’ll start our action with some racing from Delaware Park on Wednesday. We are expecting fast and firm conditions beneath sunny skies with mild temperatures. Let’s get started!

Wednesday at Delaware Park:

Race 8: Flat Out Flying - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 7/2)

Starter optional claimers race a mile here and there looks to be plenty of pace on. The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7 horses all have better early pace figures than late pace figures and the 6 horse is our selection, although the pace advantage he should have is only part of the reason for the pick. Flat Out Flying has won 11 of 36 starts with 9 seconds and 4 thirds for a 24 for 36 in the money stat. Her trainer is winning at 25% so far here at Delaware and the horse herself is a winner of 3 of 4 starts on this surface with her only loss being a close neck second place finish late last year. From a class standpoint her speed figures tip her as one of the main horses in here. Last time out she raced on turf, a surface she’s not bred for at all so her slightly muddied up form should help her odds.

Best of luck to everyone playing Wednesday’s races from Delaware Park!
