In the Busher, we knew Radio Days was a fraudulent favorite at 1/2 odds and swung for the fences with 22/1 outsider - Shotgun Hottie - who didn’t have a very fast pace to close into but finished second. 1/2 favorite Radio Days checked in 4th. In the Gotham, we were on Golden Code at 27/1 odds and he stalked the pace and outran his long odds to get 3rd in the Grade 3 Stakes race.

Our day began in Race 2 with Blini breaking well enough but then taking back to come from off the pace. On the turn you could tell the rider was just getting her race experience as she wasn’t being urged much and checked in 9th. Looks like this was an experience-builder for this first time starter. We got on the board in Race 6 when Kathleen O., taken off the early pace, was stuck behind horses and came flying late to win the Davona Dale by 2 lengths. In Race 7, we were on the well bred Mom’s Moon and he was part of the early pace but fell apart late fading in the stretch. In Race 8, we had hoped Manor House might get a flyer on the early lead but he was bumped at the break and sandwiched between horses and ever mustered a rally from there. In Race 10, Collaborate stalked a rapid early pace but faded in the drive and proved that he’s a different horse without Lasix. I won’t be betting him again without Lasix. Lesson learned. In the Fountain of Youth, Paco Lopez gave In Due Time a perfect trip behind the speed but he got bottled up on the turn. Found room too late to be a strong closing second after an ugly spill on the far turn. Thankfully all horses and riders were ok.🏼
A WIN with two longshot second place finishes and a 27/1 shot third place finish on the day was frustrating for WIN bettors like me but our EW and across the board bettors are singing our praises. This dovetails with last week’s 14/1 second place finish by Ethereal Road in the Rebel Stakes. Springtime is heating up for us and it’s only a matter of time before these longshots start connecting for our WIN bettors as the selections are running well.
With rain in the forecast for New York we’ll steer clear of Aqueduct and head back to Gulfstream for their Sunday race card. We expect mild temperatures with fast and firm conditions. Let’s GOOOO!!!!
Sunday pick for Gulfstream Park:
Race 11: Malibu Time - 1 pt win (US Morning Line Odds: 10/1)
Starter optional claimers go a mile and a sixteenth on turf and Malibu Time might get a little overlooked here based on those 10/1 morning line odds but he does co-own this field’s top speed figure over the surface based on his maiden win last time out. He didn’t have the cleanest trip as he was taken back off a slow pace on a turf course that had some give to it then stuck behind and between horses turning for home before shooting to the rail for the win. Winning jockey stays right here and offers nice value at 10/1 if able to repeat his last effort.
Best of luck to everyone playing Sunday’s races from Gulfstream Park!
